The Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro (Скупштина Републике Црне Горе or Skupština Republike Crne Gore) is the legislature of Montenegro. The Parliament currently has 81 members, each elected for a four year term. Current President of the Parliament is Ranko Krivokapić. Following the independence referendum, the Parliament is now bound to start the legal procedures to formally secede from the State Union with Serbia. The Parliament declared and ratified independence on 3 June 2006.

[edit] The role of the parliament

The Parliament of Montenegro appoints the ministers chosen by proposed Prime Minister. Parliament also passes all laws in Montenegro, ratifies international treaties, appoints justices of all courts, adopts the budget and performs other duties as setablished by the Constitution. The Parliament can pass a vote of no-confidence on the Government by a majority of the members.

A deputy has a four year term. One deputy is elected per 6,000 voters, which in turn results in a change of total number of deputies in the Assembly of Montenegro (the present assembly convening comprises 81 deputies instead of previous number of 74). The current president of the Parliament is Ranko Krivokapić.
