Park Freeway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Park Freeway was a freeway planned in Milwaukee. It was divided in two parts:
- The Park East Freeway
- The Park West Freeway
The Park Freeway's eastern point was in downtown Milwaukee, near Prospect Avenue and Ogden Avenue. At that point, the freeway turned southward and was named the Lake Freeway. The Park Freeway extended westward to I-43. This section became known as the Park East Freeway.
From I-43, the Park Freeway continued northwesterly to just north of North Avenue. From there, it continued westward to its intersection with the Stadium Freeway. This section was known as the Park West Freeway.
The right of way for the entire Park Freeway was purchased and cleared. However, only a small portion was ever built - between Milwaukee Street and Walnut Street. The remainder of the right of way lay vacant for years. Much of the land has been developed or has plans to be developed.
The only built portion was demolished beginning in 2002, and has been replaced by an at-grade McKinley Boulevard.
