Paris region

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Paris region, Île-de-France, is the region surrounding France's capital city, Paris. It is the translation from the French expression, région parisienne. This most recent use of the term results in part from the creation in 1961 of the district de la région de Paris then later district de la région parisienne, an administrative jurisdiction encompassing Paris and its suburbs that became the Île-de-France région in 1976.
