Paradise Conventions is the company that produces and promotes the annual spring event, Paradise Comicon Toronto.
Paradise Conventions is run by comic book store Paradise Comics owner Peter Dixon and organizer Kevin A. Boyd.
The subtitle to the event is "A Celebration of Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Manga and Sequential Art". The event is usually scheduled to run over three days (Friday through Sunday). Features include: exhibitor room for commercial selling of related goods, a corporate area for companies to promote their projects, an Artist Alley area for comic book creators, a guest area for invited guests of the convention, panel rooms for discussions on various aspects of Sequential Art and its creators, and a workshop room for instruction in related fields.
Paradise Comics has been putting on one-day comic book conventions in Toronto since the early-1990s. During the late-1990s the company was called Tempest Promotions, but was renamed in late 2002 to prepare for the company's transition from promoting one day flea market style comic book conventions to launching the full-fledged three-day Toronto Comicon event in late 2003. In 2005, the convention was changed to include the name Paradise to avoid confusion with a similarly named event being promoted by a local marketing company.
On certain occasions, Paradise Conventions holds one day comic book conventions called the Toronto Comic Book Fan Super Show at the Toronto Hilton Hotel. Paradise also supports charitible organizations such as The Hero Initiative and other comic book related events they feel are to the benefit of the community such as the bi-annual Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
The Convention is held at the National Trade Centre, located at Exhibition Place (home of the historic Canadian National Exhibition)
