Paradise Comicon Toronto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Paradise Comicon also known as the Toronto Comicon and the Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon is an annual comic book convention held in the spring in Toronto, Canada.

Note: Comicon is a slang way of saying comic book convention.

The subtitle to the event is "A Celebration of Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Manga and Sequential Art". The event is usually scheduled to run over 3 days (Friday through Sunday). Features include: exhibitor room for commercial selling of related goods, a corporate area for companies to promote their projects, an Artist Alley area for comic book creators, a guest area for invited guests of the convention, panel rooms for discussions on various aspects of Sequential Art and it's creators, and a workshop room for instruction in related fields.

The event is run by Paradise Conventions a division of Toronto comic book store Paradise Comics. Paradise Comics has been putting on one-day comic book conventions in Toronto since the early 1990's. In March 2003 they held the last one day Toronto Comicon and relaunched in November 2003 as a 3 day event. In 2004 it was held in mid-June. In 2005 and 2006 it was held in late April. In 2007 it will be held on June 8-10. The convention was unofficially renamed the Paradise (Toronto) Comicon to avoid confusion with a similarly named event.

In August 2006 Paradise held it's first one-day show in over three years, the Toronto Comic Book Fan Super Show at the Toronto Hilton Hotel.

The Convention is held at the National Trade Centre, located at Exhibition Place (home of the historic Canadian National Exhibition)

It is also the current home for the Annual Joe Shuster Awards for Canadian Comic Book Creators, established in 2005, the Women of Comics Symposium established in 2006 and Literacy Beyond! - an initiative to interest elementary school children in comics as a tool for reading and creativity - also established in 2006.
