Paolo Manalo

Paolo Manalo is a Filipino poet and an Assistant Professor at the College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines where he teaches English, creative writing and comparative literature. For a time he served as the literary editor of the Philippines Free Press. He received his BA and MA degrees in Creative Writing from U.P. Diliman. Jolography, his first book of poems (University of the Philippines Press, 2003), received the 2002 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award (1st prize, Poetry in English) and the 2004 U.P. Gawad Chancellor Para sa Natatanging Likha ng Sining (Outstanding Literary Work). Some of his poems also received the 2000 University of the Philippines President's Award for International Publication. His poems have appeared in several international and Philippine publications such as Columbia (New York, U.S.A.), The Literary Review (U.S.A.) and Tenggara (Malaysia).

In 2001, Manalo became the only Filipino participant at the 15th New York State Summer Writers Institute in Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, New York).
