Panton-Valentine leukocidin

Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a cytotoxin that causes leukocyte destruction, pneumonia and necrotizing fasciitis. PVL is produced from the genetic material of a phage which infects Staphylococcus aureus, making it more virulent.
