Pantheon (Marvel)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pantheon was a team of superhuman protectors in Marvel comics. They were created by an immortal named Agammemnon as the antithesis of common superhero teams who would only react to disasters and villains after they had struck; the Pantheon was created to spot and react to disaster before it arose. In addition to his own super-powered descendants, Agammemnon asked The Hulk to support his cause, and he agreed, seeing it as a chance to atone for his destructive past. The members of the Pantheon included:
- Ajax, named after an incredibly strong warrior for fought for the Greeks during the Trojan War. The comics Ajax was also incredibly strong, not far below the Hulk himself, but needed to wear a special suit to support his own weight.
- Achilles, named after the indesctructible champion of the Greeks during the Trojan War. Has superhuman power to withstand harm, but loses it in the presence of sources of gamma radiation (I.e. the Hulk).
- Ulysses, named after the Roman version of Odysseus, who devised the Trojan Horse. Armed with a round shield and sword made of energy.
- Atalanta, named after the heroine who slew the Calydonian Boar. Agile and quick like her namesake, and could fire arrows of energy.
