Pansy Parkinson is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling.
She is a Slytherin in Harry's year at Hogwarts. Pansy is described as having a hard, pug-like face and she is often seen as Draco Malfoy's female counterpart, and his love interest by default. She was Draco's date at the Yule Ball, during which she wore frilly, pale pink dress robes, and fawned all over him after he injured his arm in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. On the train ride to Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Draco's head lay in Pansy's lap as she stroked his hair with an expression of smugness.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, she joined the Inquisitorial Squad. She made sure to make the lives of the members of Dumbledore's Army miserable. She was the one who grabbed the list of members of Dumbledore's Army from the Room of Requirement.
She is often seen with Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, and, on one occasion, Blaise Zabini. She also can be found taunting and giggling with her gang of Slytherin girls. She enjoys making fun of Hermione Granger, but was stunned when she appeared at the Yule Ball, looking very pretty and accompanied by internationally renowned and celebrated Quidditch player Viktor Krum. Pansy also fed Rita Skeeter false information on Harry, Hermione and Hagrid. In the first year, when Parvati Patil stood up for Neville Longbottom, Pansy teased her and she shrieked crude remarks about Cedric Diggory, Cho Chang's dead boyfriend, to Cho and Harry when they were dating.
Pansy's bigotry, attitude, and friendships all indicate that she is a Pure-blood; this has not, however, been specifically confirmed in canon. However, if Rowling's classlist, canonical fact, and statements from her that 25% of each Hogwarts year-group are Pureblooded, all hold true, then she cannot be - since the ten purebloods in the year are Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Queenie (Daphne) Greengrass, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Lavender Brown, Ernie Macmillan, Stephen Cornfoot and Isabel (Morag) Macdougal. However, since some of these characters have seen their names change, they may well have seen their blood-status change also.
Pansy was played by Genevieve Gaunt in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban film.
Rumours have circulated the internet that in the upcoming film "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", Genevieve Gaunt will not be reprising her role and that Pansy Parkinson will instead be played by British teenager Lauren Shotton. WB have yet to provide any details of whether this is the case.[citation needed]
