Panjgur District

Panjgur (Urdu: پنجگور ) is a district in the west of Balochistan province of Pakistan. Panjgur was notified as a district on July 1, 1977 when Makran district was given the status of a division and was divided into three districts. Previously it was one of the 3 tehsils of Makran district. For administrative purposes, the whole district is one sub-division, i.e., Panjgur, and further divided into one tehsil (Panjgur) and two sub-tehsils, named Gichk and Parome. Some of the towns that are within the Panjgur district are Tasp, Washbood, Gramkhan, Kudabadan, Surdoo, Chitkan, Bunistan, Ihrap, Sarekalat, Isaai and Surdhoo. Land settlement was initiated in 1992 as a preparation to the construction of Mirani Dam, but to date only four wards have been finalised in the whole district. Panjgur is famous for production of dates and quality is more delicous than other areas of province.

The population of Panjgur district was estimated to be over 350,000 in 2005. Over 99% of the people of the area are Muslims.
