Palmyra is a village in Wayne County, New York, United States. The population was 3,490 at the 2000 census. The village, along with the town, is named after Palmyra in Syria.

The village was originally called "Swifts Landing" in 1790, but was incorporated as Palmyra in 1827. By 1900, the village had become a railroad and industrial center.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²), all land.
It is located at metropolitan Rochester, New York.
. It is part ofPalmyra village is at the junction of New York State Route 31 and New York State Route 21, which are partly conjoined in the village. Palmyra is located along the Erie Canal and is south of Lake Ontario.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,490 people, 1,494 households, and 871 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,013.2/km² (2,623.4/mi²). There were 1,588 housing units at an average density of 461.0/km² (1,193.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.25% White, 0.49% Black or African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.63% of the population.
There were 1,494 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.7% were non-families. 33.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $38,561, and the median income for a family was $49,450. Males had a median income of $35,351 versus $22,870 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,087. About 5.6% of families and 6.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.9% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.

Palmyra is home to the Palmyra-Macedon Select Choir, the PMFC Soccer Team, and Boy Scout Troop 96.
The area around Palmyra is the birthplace of Mormonism.
