Palladium on carbon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Palladium on carbon is a modified palladium catalyst often used in organic chemistry and denoted as Pd/C. When the metal is distributed over finely divided carbon the surface area is larger and the catalyst more reactive. In a typical procedure palladium(II) chloride and hydrochloric acid are added to nitric acid washed Norit. This composite is then dried, reduced with hydrogen gas and washed. The palladium loading is typically between 5% and 10%.
Another palladium catalyst is the Lindlar catalyst. The platinum pendant is called platinum on carbon.
