Palästinalied

Palästinalied is a song written by Walther von der Vogelweide, the most celebrated German mediaeval lyric poet. Its subject matter is Palestine and the crusades. It has recently been performed by the well-known German folk-metal music group In Extremo, to be found on their album "Weckt die Toten!" (wake the dead), making it well known to modern audiences.

It has also been recorded by Qntal and performed live at the Philadelphia's Dracula's Ball in over Labor Day weekend in 2004. It was recorded on their second album "Qntal 2".

A more melodic version of the song was recorded by Pilgrimage on "Nine Songs of Ecstasy" as "Land of Ecstasy," in addition to Unto Ashes version.

The German medieval-EBM fusion act Heimataerde also used the melody from "Palästinalied" as the bagpipe-lead in the song "Deus Lo Vult" from their first album, Gotteskrieger. Other similar groups to cover the song have been Saltatio Mortis,Corvus Corax and Qntal
