Pakpattan (Urdu: پاکپتن) is a district of Punjab, Pakistan. Pakpattan is also called city of Baba Fareed. Pakpattan District's population is 1,274,253. It is 250 km from Lahore. In the northwest is the Sahiwal District. In the north is the Okara District. In south flows the Sutlej river. In the southwest is the Vehari District. Most of the population of Pakpattan district lives on agriculture. The main crops are wheat, rice, cotton, maize (corn), sugar cane, etc. The primary fruits and vegetables that are harvested are mango, gauva, carrots, potatoes, and okra.
Formerly known as Ajodhan, it was renamed Pak Pattan (meaning "Clean Lan" in old Punjabi) after arrival of Sufi Saint Baba Fareed. It is now a district in Province Punjab of Pakistan. It has the Shrine of Baba Fareed and people come all over the world to pass thru a gate called "Bahishti Darwaza" or Heavens Gate. Founder of Sikh Faith Guru Nanak had reverence to Baba Fareed and hence Sikhs also come here to pay tribute. Close to Pak Patan is Mlaka Hans where famous Punjabi poet Waris Shah wrote his famous love story "Heer Waris Shah".
