Pakistani American

Pakistani Americans are Americans of Pakistani origin.

As per Census 2000 there were 204,309 people of Pakistani origin living in America. (see link [1] on page 9) Approximately 35,000 live in New York City, primarily in the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. Pakistani Americans in 2000 made up New York City's fifth largest Asian group.

Chicago, Houston and Washington, DC metropolitan areas also boast large Pakistani American population.

Total Pakistani and Pakistani American population in early 2004 was approximately 500,000. The largest number of Pakistanis and Pakistani Americans live in New Jersey (95,000). After that it is New York (94,500), California (54,000), Texas (50,000), Illinois (37,000), Virginia (25,000), Florida (17,000), Maryland (13,000), Georgia (11,000) and Michigan (10,500). (citation: http://www.pal-c.org/pkamericans.html) The Pakistani American population in Virginia and Maryland is primarily around Washington, DC area.

Pakistan is the 12th highest ranked source country for immigration into the US, and the highest ranked Muslim nation. [1]. Compared to other heritage groups in the US, Pakistani Americans are better educated with 54% holding a bachelors degree or higher. [2]
