Pakistan Standard Time

Pakistan Standard Time (PST) is the time zone for Pakistan. It is 5 hours ahead of GMT/UTC (UTC+5).

In 2002 it was reported by The News International of Pakistan (and confirmed by the Pakistan Government Tourist Bureau) that "In order to make maximum use of daylight and to save energy, the cabinet decided to adopt the daylight saving scheme. It has been decided to advance the clocks by one hour on the night between the first Saturday and Sunday of April and revert to the original position on 15th October each year. This system has been adopted for one year only on experimental basis."

In 2003 it is reported that DST ends on the first Sunday in October at 00:01 because it was a concise date. This system has been abolished and it has not used DST since then.

Abolition of DST in Pakistan The reason behind the abolition of this time setting was that people became confused about the original time. Because this time setting was proposed by President Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf, people termed Daylight Saving Time as "Musharraf Time". All organizations followed the Government proposed time system (DST), but the general public who did not belong to any organization didn't follow the DST.This led to the interesting situation which occurred whenever someone asked "what is the time by your watch?" The answer was invariably "in which time system, real or Musharraf?"
