[edit] Applications

[edit] PaintChatApp

PaintChatApp (or just Paintchat) is a prevalent paint chat application on the Internet. Paintchat is closed-source freeware, and consists of a Java server application and a Java client applet. It was originally developed in 2000 by Japanese programmer Shi-chan (http://shichan.jp) and has enjoyed significant popularity.

[edit] openCanvas

Some users desire drawing sessions of a more intimate nature. A popular software application for this is openCanvas, whose old freeware versions featured network support. One user will host the session. openCanvas accepts up to 3 other users via incoming TCP connections. None of these features exist in openCanvas 2.x and later. Copies of oC11b72.exe (openCanvas 1.1b72) remain in wide circulation on the Internet because of this.

[edit] Others

  • Groupboard - multi-user Java whiteboard, which allows multiple users to draw in real-time. Users can put a Groupboard onto their website by copying a few lines of HTML code.
  • Sketcher - bears some resemblance to Paintchat and relies on the same Java client applet/Java server application paradigm, but has fewer tools.
