Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport (German: Flughafen Paderborn-Lippstadt) (IATA: PAD, ICAO: EDLP) is an airport in Germany that serves the Ostwestfalen-Lippe area in North Rhine-Westphalia. While the name infers a location within the city of Paderborn or the town of Lippstadt, the airport is actually located in the town of Büren, around 18km from Paderborn city centre. Although the airport technically only serves the Ostwestfalen Lippe region, it is popular among residents of a wider area due to the availability of free long-term parking. It came into being in 1971 as the Flughafen Paderborn/Lippstadt GmbH, with over 1.3 million passing through the airport in 2004.

[edit] Destinations and airlines
Lufthansa operates several flights a day to Munich and Frankfurt. Budget airline Air Berlin offers flights to a number of Spanish resorts including Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, as well as a number of Greek islands, Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia. Air Berlin also offers flights to London Stansted, Manchester and, more recently, Bournemouth. Flights to and from Southampton were recently moved to the nearby airport of Bournemouth as it has more available slots and a runway more suited to larger Boeing 737 aircraft.
The flights to the UK are primarily intended to serve British military personnel and their families stationed in Paderborn and the surrounding area, but have equally found popularity with German tourists and visitors, as well as visitors from the UK not affiliated with the military.
[edit] Technical details
The airport possesses a single runway of 2,180 m length and 45m width and is suited to all medium-range air traffic up to the Boeing 767 and the Airbus A310. In 2006/07 it is planned that this runway be extended to 2,400 m to allow for non-stop flights to the Spanish islands in adverse weather conditions. The airport serves as a diversion destination in case of difficulty, as evidenced by closures of Düsseldorf Airport in the past.
[edit] Facilities
The terminal offers several facilities for travelers. There are mainly travel agencies in the airport. A Restaurant is available, too. There are also shops and car rentals at the airport. The airport has got a Visitors terrace from which a full view across the airfield is possible. A conference center with several conference rooms can be found at the airport. At the ground of the airport a hotel has been opened in October 2006. Next to the airport there is an industrial parc with several companies.
[edit] Ground Transportation
The airport is located next to the Autobahn A 44 at the exit Büren (60). Long term parking at the airport is for free.
There is a bus shuttle from the main train station in Paderborn. It operates more or less on an hourly basis. There are thoughts about building a train connection to the airport in the future.
