Pacific Classic Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grade I Pacific Classic Stakes is a race for three years of age or older thoroughbred race horses. Held in August, the Pacific Classic has a purse of $1,000,000, and is the prestige event of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club as one of the top races on the West Coast. The race has a distance of one and one-quarter miles on the dirt (10 furlongs) and is a prep for the Breeders' Cup Classic.

On August 24, 2003 Julie Krone became the first female rider to win a million-dollar horse race when she rode Candy Ride to the wire in the Pacific Classic.
