User:Pablo-flores/IPA character templates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following is a series of templates intended to facilitate the use of IPA characters in phonemic/phonetic transcriptions. Each template has the prefix IPA: and then a very short name, all in lowercase, without spaces, and using hyphens where necessary. For example, {{IPA:open-o}} gives "ɔ", the lax back open-mid vowel (Unicode LATIN SMALL LETTER OPEN O). The idea is not to encode all IPA characters, only the most commonly used (at least, in the languages I know!).

Char Template Meaning
ŋ eng "eng"
ɲ pal-n "palatal nasal"
ɾ flap-r "alveolar flap"
ɛ open-e "open e"
ɔ open-o "open o"
ə schwa "schwa"
ɪ lax-i "small capital i"
ʊ lax-u "small upsilon"
