P. J. Joseph

P.J. Joseph is the head of the Kerala Congress J, a political party based in Kerala, India. Currently his party is part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), a union of parties leaning towards the left. He was first elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1970. He has held ministerial positions in the government of Kerala on several occasions serving as Minister of Education, Public Works Department and Housing , Home affairs and Revenue.

Joseph a post-graduate and a farmer himself is also in the forefront of promoting agriculture using organic manure in the state . He organizes the annual "Karshikamela" or Agricultural festival in Thodupuzha. His hobbies include music

In the recent Kerala assembly elections, LDF was voted into power and Mr. Joseph got elected from the Thodupuzha assembly constituency for the seventh time. He has sworn in as the Minister for Public Work Department.

Accused by a lady co-passenger of misbehaving with her P.J Joseph resigned from the Kerala Cabinet on 04-09-2006. The lady had complained of being groped by the minister on a kingfisher airlines flight. The accusation will be properly inquired by the State Police Department. In september 2006 Kerela Deputy Inspector General B. Sandhya filed a report on the allegations.[1]

He has previously been in the eye of controversy following the finding by Attorney General and a legislative assembly committee of corruption amounting to 340 crores of rupees in a housing project, implemented when he was minister in the previous LDF government. Another legislative assembly commitee found that a floriculturalist society with Joseph as the chairperson committed serious irregularities while dealing with a 41 lakh rupee grant it got from the government.
