[edit] Lacrosse in Australia

Hi Daren, Luke Oswald here. I saw your note in the lacrosse discussion about the very USA-focussed article and agree. I am taking it upon myself to create a page called "Lacrosse in Australia" (not published as yet) which will have info about the history, development and future of the game in Australia. I have already gathered some records of national championships winners and league winners in the various states, though some lists are incomplete, as well as a page about the Australian Lacrosse League. As more info is gathered it may be necessary to split the page up, maybe have pages for each state, we'll see how it goes. I think the way forward with this is to set up a WikiProject. I will invite other people to add info as they please. There are quite a few aussies that go on The Lacrosse Forums that would probably be able to add info. It will also be necessary to back up info as required should people get too biased with their articles!!

[edit] Adelaide Uni Lacrosse

Hello Daren. At the moment, the club does appear to meet the notability guidelines in that does not appear to be sufficiently sportingly notable, as it is an amateur/social-level club, and isn't at first-class standard. The historical notability is quite weak - it has been around a long time, but many old high schools also have old sports clubs, and many of these have been deleted also. The third thing, as a declared party in the subject of the article, that will also raise eyebrows, as it is peripherally related to WP:AUTO -atuobiography is discouraged.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 02:53, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

I have looked at the page and have replied there. I deleted all the other UniMelb sports teams a while before I stumbled across the lacrosse club.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 04:38, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aussie / Adelaidian?

Here's an Aussie welcome! (G'day!) Take a look at a the Australian Wikipedians' Noticeboard and if you're from the fine city of Adelaide feel free to jump on deck and give us a hand at WikiProject:Adelaide.

Best of luck here, I'll be watching your edits! michael talk 23:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barossa Germans

Where to next? Rewrite it in your own words. Gsl 07:29, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Just received an email by an author of some of the work. He claims copyright and does not want his work used on wikipedia. I'm not really sure he did most of the work on this as it seems to appear in many places and is claimed by them or is allowed to be copied. In any case I'm quite prepared to find other sources or even track down original newspaper articles etc. Ozdaren 13:17, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
There is nothing wrong with using the article you copied as a source for your own article but you can't necessarily copy verbatim. As it says down the bottom of every edit page "Only public domain resources can be copied without permission—this does not include most web pages." And someone saying their work is "free for republishing" or "freely redistributable" does not necessarily mean it is compatible with the GFDL -- they might not want their work modified, and they certainly might want to be attributed as the source. So the safest course is to write the article in your own words and list any web pages you used as sources in an ==External links== section. Gsl 23:21, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
You might want to take a look at / help out with this in-progress article if you're interested in German history in SA. Interestingly, I only just got up to the Barossa Valley part of it so if wish to - please feel free to assist! michael talk 08:11, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I give in. There are too many ins and outs of wikipedia for a novice user to fathom. I think I will limit myself to adding minor bits of content to existing articles and tidying. I'm going about this all the wrong way. Ozdaren 10:14, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Give in? Why? We just can't copy other stuff - we write our own! michael talk 10:16, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
No I understand the principles of copyright. I even looked up the Australian Copyright Council pages to assertain how far the laws go in Australia. What I meant was a personal reflection on the lack of depth in my contribution to wikipedia so far. Perhaps I gave too much of a public airing to a private musing. Ozdaren 12:38, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lacrosse

The lacrosse article is heavily biased in favour of US lacrosse. I believe the article should be improved. Have your say on their talk page. Ozdaren 04:49, 26 June 2006 (UTC) Hi Daren I haven't worked on those pages for a while now. Please let me know which ones in particular should be edited, cheers... [edit] HTC

If that is true, then well done. I know very little about the HTC/ASUS. I was merely implementing the consensus of, what appears to be, a whole host of uninformed people :) -- Avi 14:35, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Then your expertise in updating/correcting that set of articles will be greatly appreciated! -- Avi 14:47, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Lacrosse

I have created a proposal for a new WikiProject about lacrosse, and I thought you might be interested in joining. Please check out the temporary project page at User:MrBoo/WikiProject Lacrosse and sign your name if you are interested.
