The OZ-07AMS Aries is a mobile suit from the Gundam anime television series New Mobile Report Gundam Wing.
The OZ-07AMS Aries was one of the earlier models of mobile suits created and deployed by OZ in the After Colony era, following on the heels of their relatively successful Leo series of mobile suits. The Aries would also follow the trend of naming new mobile suits after Zodiacal Constellations. Aries, which means "ram", is the first symbol of the Zodiac.
The Aries was designed to fill the role of an air superiority unit, able to supplement the considerable ground forces of OZ. Unlike other mobile suits of its time the Aries was fully capable of sustained independent atmospheric flight under its own power. The Aries acchieved this through the use of a pair of very large jet engines mounted over the units shoulders, as well as a pair in both legs and on the tips of its two "wings". The wings also served as aerodynamic control surfaces to give the Aries better stability in flight. To further reduce stress on the unit while in flight, as well as to increase the aerodynamic properties of the unit, the Aries was also capable of undergoing a slight transformation into a flight mode by folding its legs up and backwards behind its torso. This function made the Aries OZ's first variable-geometry mobile suit.
Compared to the Leo, the Aries had only a sparse amount of weapons options available to it. An Aries could be equipped to carry either a clip-fed rifle called a chainrifle, or a small four-tube missile pod in its hands for combat use. But an Aries could also store up to four additional chainrifles or missile pods on the double hardpoints on the top and underside of each of its two large aerodynamic control surface wings.
The Aries model would be widely used by OZ during the early onset of war in After Colony 195, but often found itself at a severe disadvantage when faced with the high-powered Gundam-type mobile suits sent to Earth by the rebeling colonists. Towards the end of the war the Aries design would fall out of fashion in favor of producing large quantities of pilot-less mobile doll units, however the unit still retained use with some of the Earth-based troops of the United Earth Sphere Alliance, who would paint their Aries units a lighter gray with a sea green visor. Veteran OZ pilot Lucrezia Noin also had a customized Aries unit, painted in a drab moss green with a pale blue vizor.
