Oxford is a city in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 14,592. Oxford is one of two urban centers/principal cities of and included in the Anniston-Oxford Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Oxford is located at 33°35'49.578" North, 85°50'19.972" West (33.597105, -85.838881)GR1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.4 km² (18.3 mi²). 47.2 km² (18.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.38%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 14,592 people, 5,734 households, and 4,231 families residing in the city. The population density was 308.9/km² (800.1/mi²). There were 6,210 housing units at an average density of 131.5/km² (340.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 87.46% White, 9.88% Black or African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 1.93% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,734 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% are married *couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 23.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.97.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $40,397, and the median income for a family was $47,891. Males had a median income of $34,838 versus $21,897 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,923. About 6.8% of families and 9.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.3% of those under age 18 and 10.1% of those age 65 or over.
