Ovidio G. Assonitis

Ovidio Assonitis was born on January 18, 1943 in Alexandria, Egypt. He was a prolific film-maker working as Director, Screenwriter and Producer. He started working in Italy directing the movie Chi sei? (1974) (released in USA as Beyond the Door). The film was a rip-off of the movie The Exorcist so Warner Bros. took legal action. However in Italy the movie was successful. Between '70 and '80 he tried again with horror movies following the way opened by Jaws: he first directed Tentacoli (1977) then produced Piranha II: The Spawning (1981) firing the Director James Cameron during post-production and deciding the final cut himself.
