The World of Warcraft guild Overrated has been permanently banned by Blizzard Entertainment after it was caught cheating in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Guild members used an exploit that essentially knocked down walls, according to postings on World of Warcraft-related forums.

The guild had been playing the level of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, also known as AQ40. In it, the dungeon level map progresses in a circular manner from the first to last bosses. The mod effectively allowed the guild to bypass what it refers to as "C'thun trash," bosses who dropped less lucrative items. Guild members could then move on to the final boss, C'thun, who drops more valuable goodies.

Pantaloons, a member of the Overrated guild, commented on the WOW forums, "Let me explain. We are the only US Horde guild that clears Naxx [the most challenging area of the game], been like that for a few weeks. People found that the pre-C'thun trash was so painful, that they decided to install some stupid thing that deletes walls or something, and you can just run there after Skeram [the first boss]. I know, we had it coming, blah blah whatever, we know we deserve it...I'm sure they'll try and get it rescinded because it's kind of a steep punishment with no recourse or whatever."

Blizzard Entertainment did not respond to requests from GameSpot for a comment.

Fighting trash mobs is totally Overrated

According to several threads that are making their way around the WoW.com forums, the Horde guild Overrated, from the Black Dragonflight realm, had a majority of their members get the WoW death penalty: the permaban. Yes, this is THE Overrated, probably the top Horde guild on the US servers.

Why the permaban? Well, according to various claims in the threads, a bunch of the guild members used hacks to run through walls to C'Thun as opposed to fighting the trash mobs and the bosses along the way. Of course, there are a couple more rumors in the forums about what really happened, as tends to be the case with all forum drama.

If the wall hack is true...damn. All those incredibly geared players are just gone! It was stupid to try a hack like that to save time, and Blizzard more than dropped the hammer on them for doing it. I sort of feel sorry for them, but the reaction from the Black Dragonflight community seems to be glee, so maybe these guys truly had it coming. Either way, I hope they have fun hitting the level mill all over again. Oh, and they are recruiting! Get your apps in now! CTRaid, Decursive and Wall Hack required mods. Hah. I kid.

Anyone out there from Overrated? Or can anyone shed some further light on the situation?

And if you come across any other guild drama, the resident Gossip Queen of WoW Insider would love to hear from you.

WOW Cheating Guild Banned

“We had it coming”
By: Robert Matei, Gaming News Editor

Blizzard Entertainment is taking extreme measures against cheaters as they have decided to ban a whole World of Warcraft guild. The guild in question is called Overrated and they presumably were one of the best WoW guilds out there.

According GameSpot, Overrated used some kind of cheat that knocked down walls, when playing in the more advanced levels of World of Warcraft. The guild had been playing the level Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, long version for AQ40. This level featured a circular manner of progress from the first to the last boss.

To be more specific, Overrated used a cheat to pass “C’thun trash”, namely bosses who dropped less lucrative items, according to GameSpot. This cheat allowed the guild members to go straight to the final boss of the level, C’thun, boss that offered much more items once they defeated him.

A member of the Overrated guild, Pantaloons, was the only one who commented on this issue on WOW forums, declaring that they had it coming, but emphasized the fact that they are the only US Horde guild that clears the most challenging area of the game, namely Naxx.

No matter what goes wrong with WoW it still remains the most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game ever, as it has recently reached 6 million subscribers.

First US Horde guild Overrated banned for hacking

Most of members (like 90%) from Overrated (first and only US Horde guild to kill Kelthuzad) got banned for using Patch 5 to remove skerams platform, and fall through the earth straight to C'thuns tunnel.

According to our sources, Patch 5 was a data file (not blizzard authentic) that you insert into the Data folder in world of warcraft directory. It removed skerams platform, allowing you to drop under the map and walk straight down into the tunnel leading to C'thun.

You know what await you now if you ever planned to use this *shortcut*.
