Overbrook (Ottawa)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Overbrook, known colloquially as the O.B., is a community located in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is across the Rideau River from the neighbourhoods of Lower Town and Sandy Hill, and just to the south of Vanier, Rockcliffe Park and New Edinburgh. To the east of Overbrook are the suburbs of Gloucester.
Overbrook has a very small area, and a high population density. The neighbourhood of Overbrook's Main Street is Queen Mary, which runs from North River Rd to St. Laurent Boulevard. This neighbourhood's main area to the people who live there are from Lola St to Quill St, and from Presland Rd to King George St. Overbrook is bordered by major streets Vanier Parkway (west), St. Laurent Blvd (east), Coventry Rd (south) and McArthur Avenue (north).
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Overbrook was one of the poorer and more dangerous areas of Ottawa; the population is much more affluent today. Like nearby Lower Town and Vanier neighbourhoods, Overbrook's diverse population makes it one of the city's more interesting neighbourhoods.
During the last few years, an important employment and commercial developed on Coventry Road beside the Lynx Stadium. A new hotel, RCMP office and condos were built as well.
