Talk:Outstanding Unit Award

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Proper Title of this Article

The proper title of this page is "Oustanding Unit Award" per the Randolph Air Force Base instruction on Air Force unit awards and information contained at the National Personnel Records Center. The prefix "Air Force" is not used in front of any Air Force unit citations except for the Meritorious Unit Award to distinguish it from the MUCs of the other services. -User:Husnock 2 Sep 04

Tell it to the folks at http://www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/awardsasp/Medal.asp?abbr=AFOUA Pmsyyz 04:59, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
That online instruction has a great deal of mistakes in it. As a matter of fact, we HAVE told that to the people at Randolph Air Force Base. The hardcopy publications we have at NPRC list the decoration simply as Outstanding Unit Award and this is the way it appears in most military service records. Some records have listed it as "AFOUA", but in most it is listed as Outstanding Unit Award. -User:Husnock 3 Sep 04

[edit] More Investigation

Did some more investigation...Randolph AFB lists the decoration as "Air Force Oustanding Unit Award". Department of the Air Force Awards Manual lists award as "Outstanding Unit Award." Service records are split between "AFOUA" and "Outstanding Unit Award". What to call it? I think we should leave it as is since the prefix seems redundent. Also would cause some double redirects. Thats my opinion. -User:Husnock 3 Sep 04
