Outgun
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Outgun is a free-software multiplayer action game for the PC. It consists of simple capture the flag-style battles around mazes that vary in complexity, usually taking place over a local area network or a LAN. However, online servers are available for those who choose to play on them(though, since the game is Portugese in origin, a language barrier may be a problem for some).
In Outgun, up to twelve players divide in to 2 teams of six, one red and one blue. They are then placed in random points in one of up to 75 default maps, or more if a level editor is implemented. Once the game begins, players use the arrow keys to move about the stage and attempt to maneuver their way to the opponent's flag. If a player captures the opponent's flag, they must return it to the spot on their base in which their own flag is placed. If a team's flag is not present on its base when they capture the opponent's flag, their own flag must be returned before a capture can be counted as a point. The first team with five successful captures generally wins a round, though these rules can be edited at the users' discretion.
Though the default weapon in Outgun is a simple cannon mounted to the front of the player's 'tank', a variety of power ups and special items can be collected as well. If a player is killed, then all stats are reset and all power up effects are thus nullified. These include: -
-Weapon Up: Changes the shot type of the player's weapon(from a single shot to a double shot to a triple shot and so forth; up to 8 can be collected)
-Power Up: Increases the power of the player's weapon, indicated by the player's tank beginning to flash blue
-Shadow: For 40 seconds, the player is invisible to other players. Also, the player can see every person and flag location on the area map, instead of just those in the room that they are occupying. However, players with shadow can see other players with shadow on the area map.
-Turbo: For 40 seconds, the player moves at double speed.
-Health Up: The player's max health is increased from 100 hit points(about 2 regular shots) to 200 hit points
-Smoke Bomb: The player that picks this up is engulfed in a cloud of smoke. Upon that player's death(or by pressing the 'delete' key), the player explodes, catching all other players on screen in the explosion. This explosion deals 188 damage, so unless the players have a health up, they are guaranteed to die in the explosion.
