Out of This World (Johnny Mercer song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Out of This World is an American popular song with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Harold Arlen. It was introduced in the film Out of This World in 1945 by Bing Crosby dubbing in for the voice of the main character played by Eddie Bracken.

Alec Wilder describes the Arlen melody as creating a modal feeling (the mixolydian mode) that achieves an unearthly effect. It is unlike his other lyric ballads in that it is one of Arlen's most direct and deliberately unrhythmic melodies -- altogether a strong song with splendid support from the Johnny Mercer lyric.[1]
