Out-of-service
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The out-of-service tone, or SIT (special information tone) is a special tone heard on a phone line when a number dialed is out of service, not working, or currently unavailable. It consists of three tones, and can vary from country to country.
The first tone of the SIT tone is used by the Telezapper in an attempt to thwart telemarketers by tricking autodialers into thinking the number it's calling is out of service.
