Ouro Verde de Goiás is a small town and municipality in central Goiás state, Brazil.

Ouro Verde is 63 km. northeast of Goiânia and 31 km west of Anápolis.

  • Highway connections: state highway GO-080 north from Goiânia to Nerópolis and then GO-433 for 22 km. north. [1]

In January 2005 the Mayor was Anízio Florentino Alves. The city council had 9 members and there were 3,218 eligible voters in April 2006.

In 2005 the population density was 21.08 inhab/km². In 2003 there were 2,678 inhabitants in the urban area and 1,710 in the rural area. The population has grown by about 600 inhabitants since 1980.

The economy is based on agriculture, cattle raising, services, and public administration. In 2005 there were 8 industrial units and 18 commercial units in the city. There were no banking institutions. In 2004 there were 416 autmobiles.

In 2005 there were 28,000 head of cattle, 31,000 head of poultry, and 3,080 head of swine. The main agricultural products were rice, bananas, coffee, sugarcane, beans, oranges, lemons, manioc, corn (800 hectares), soybeans, and tomatoes. Production was very modest due to the limited area of the municipality.

In 2003 there was 1 hospital with 13 beds and 2 ambulatory health clinics. There were 6 doctors, 1 nurse, and 2 dentists in 2002. In 2000 the infant mortality rate was 30.58, below the national average of 33.0.

In 2005 the school system had 3 schools, 28 classrooms, 64 teachers, and 1,273 students. Included were 174 secondary school students in 1 school. IN 2000 the adult literacy rate was 85.9%, below the national average of 86.4%.
