Other characters in Sonic the Hedgehog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sonic the Hedgehog universes and continuities have dozens of minor characters, many of whom are anthropomorphic animals. Minor characters are arranged here according to the continuity in which they appear.

For characters that appear exclusively in the SatAM and Archie comics continuities, see the separate article Minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie). For characters that appear exclusively in the UK Sonic the Comic continuity, see List of characters in Sonic the Comic.

[edit] Video Game Continuity

NOTE: Characters from the video game continuity are often used in others as well.

[edit] Babylon Guardian

The Babylon Guardian (called Angelus the Gatekeeper in Japan) is a fictional character from Sonic Riders. He is a bottled Genie-god resembling a large purple hawk who guards the treasure of Babylon. This treasure was revealed to be a 'magic carpet' which was actually a prototype Extreme Gear created by the ancient Babylonians. He regards those who seek treasure as greedy, and he is hidden behind a large door in Babylon Garden (the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Japan). He is the final 'boss' of Sonic Riders. He is defeated at the end of the Babylon Story by Sonic in Digital Dimension.

The guardian god is defeated by boosting into his bottle three times. His health is displayed at the top of the screen. He occasionally throws energy balls at the player or shrinks into his bottle. The player has to successfully hit the bottle and cross the finish line to go on to the next lap; the lap counter will remain on Lap 1 until the player boost into him and cross the marker. Once he is defeated, crossing the finish line first will win the race.

[edit] Bark the Polarbear

Bark the Polarbear is a yellow polar bear who appears in the games Sonic the Fighters and Fighters Megamix alongside Bean the Dynamite. He lacks speed and has a low IQ, but his incredible strength makes up for it. He has the comical ability of flattening an opponent's head in Sonic the Fighters.

He and Bean appear in issue #160 of the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic, where they ambush Sonic on his birthday, but Bark finds himself outnumbered and surrenders to Fiona Fox. He also made a cameo appearance in issue #50. He also used to be part of a mercenary group which included Fiona and Bean and was led by Nic the Weasel.

Bark also makes an appearance in Shenmue as a collection toy.

[edit] Battle Kukku Army

The Battle Kukku Army are an army of birds that invade Cocoa Island in Tails Adventure. They invade the island to snag the Chaos Emeralds which are hidden on the island. Tails battles against the army and has to go up against their leader, the evil dictator Grand Battle Kukku 15th. Tails defeats him and the birds surrender. Another name for the Battle Kukku Army is the Battle Bird Armada. Besides Grand Battle Kukku the 15th, members of the Battle Kukku Army include his son, Battle Kukku 16th, the Kukku scientist Dr. Fukurokov, the fastest Kukku Speedy and a variety of soldiers and robots. The Battle Kukku Army lives on a huge flying fortress that posed as an island throughout most of Tails Adventure.

Notably, there is a peculiar similarity between Speedy the Kukku, Bean the Dynamite and Jet the Hawk, three bird characters who are all green.

[edit] Bean the Dynamite

Bean from Sonic the Fighters.
Bean from Sonic the Fighters.

Bean the Dynamite is a green duck in the game Sonic the Fighters, also formerly known in North America and Europe as Sonic Championship.

Bean likes to throw bombs at his enemies, and seems to have an endless supply of them (it is believed that he has the ability to instantly manifest any type of explosive). The character was modeled after Bin and Pin, two characters in the arcade game Dynamite Dux. He has also starred in Fighters Megamix, along with Bark the Polarbear. Another lesser known appearance of Bean would be in Virtua Striker 2 . Bean is featured in this game on an unlockable team. When Sonic Riders was being produced, many fans mistook Jet the Hawk for Bean.

He and Bark appear in issue #160 of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic where Bean jumps out of the window after Fiona Fox's keys, and is later knocked out by Shadow the Hedgehog. He also made a cameo in the series' 50th issue. Like Bark, he used to be part of a mercenary band led by Nic the Weasel.

[edit] Eggod

A robot built to resemble one of the norse gods, it is thought that he will make an appearance in Sonic and the Secret Rings. [citation needed]

[edit] Egg Golem

The Egg Golem is a boss character appearing in Sonic Adventure 2. After Knuckles the Echidna defeats King Boom Boo, Eggman appears and summons a giant animated stone statue called the Egg Golem to battle Sonic the Hedgehog. To defeat the Egg Golem, Sonic must run to his back, jump across the platforms that stick out, and attack Golem's control mechanism atop its head.

In the Dark Story, Sonic immediately jumps up and kicks the control mechanism, causing the Egg Golem go haywire and attack Eggman. In order to defeat it, Eggman has to use his Volkan Cannon to destroy its internal power generators. Once all three of them are destroyed, the Egg Golem becomes disabled and sinks into the quicksand.

The Egg Golem fights by smashing its hands and head against the circular platform that Sonic or Eggman is standing on. It can also create an electrical field around itself to repel attacks, or spin its arms around itself in order to sweep enemies from the platform.

The Egg Golem also appeared in the Sonic X adaption of Sonic Adventure 2. It was remotely controlled by Bokkun who used it to fight Sonic and Knuckles. The two heroes had a hard time with the golem, but eventually Cream the Rabbit stole the remote control from Bokkun, and made the Egg Golem chase him into the desert. It later appeared standing in the desert during Super Sonic's and Super Shadow's fight against the Finalhazard, with Bokkun standing on its head.

A similar character was also used in the game Sonic & Knuckles as the first act boss in the Sandopolis Zone. Like the Egg Golem it was an animated statue, vulnerable only on its head, and although it was not named, it may have been a partial inspiration for the later character.

[edit] Eggman Nega

Eggman Nega in Sonic Rush.
Eggman Nega in Sonic Rush.

Eggman Nega is one of the main villains in the Nintendo DS game, Sonic Rush. In that game is from the same dimension as Blaze the Cat, and is her primary nemesis. He is more cruel and calculating than the Eggman from Sonic's world, and has sent Blaze's world into ruin, which is why he sets out for the Sol Emeralds. He is eerily polite for such a cold and calculating person. His downside, however, is that he can sometimes lose track of important details while making unnecessary speeches. His design appears reminiscent to the older Eggman from the Genesis Sonic games, albeit with the colors reversed.

Nega is revealed to be the primary antagonist in Sonic Rivals. Fitting in with the rest of the console series, he is revealed to be a descendant of Dr. Eggman. Using a special camera, he turns several objects and characters into cards, with the objective of turning the world into a card that he will control.

[edit] Eggrobo

Eggrobo in Sonic R.
Eggrobo in Sonic R.

Eggrobo is an egg-shaped humanoid robot resembling Dr. Eggman. They first appeared as enemies in the game Sonic & Knuckles. In Sonic's storyline in that game, they only appeared as standard badnik enemies in the Sky Sanctuary Zone, after being seen launched from the Death Egg.

They are rather more prominent in Knuckles' storyline, however, as one Eggrobo in particular replaces Eggman as the end-of-zone boss in every level up until the Hidden Palace Zone (in all of Knuckles' appearances prior to this, he had been allied with Eggman). This Eggrobo also appears in cutscenes in the game. At the beginning of the game, while Knuckles is relaxing along with some of his animal friends, the Eggrobo drops a bomb in their midst that scares his friends away. This Eggrobo is destroyed by Mecha Sonic in the Sky Sanctuary Zone (the final level in Knuckles' storyline). The Eggrobo restrains Knuckles, allowing Mecha Sonic to charge at him, but Knuckles breaks free and Mecha Sonic destroys the Eggrobo instead.

An Eggrobo later appears in Sonic R as an unlockable character. It has abilities similar to Dr. Eggman's, though Eggrobo is slow for an unlockable character. It is unlocked by getting all the golden coins in the "Regal Ruins" level. An Eggrobo appears in Sonic Adventure 2 as a kart racing VMU Download with his own stage[1], and again in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle as Rouge the Bat's unlockable sub kart, obtained by getting all the emblems of Rouge's missions.

The Archie Sonic comic featured Eggrobos being controlled by Snively Kintobor, among other appearances as basic soldiers. They are quickly defeated by Sonic and and a monkey warrior named Monkey Khan.

Eggrobo's latest appearance was a cameo appearance on the cover of issue #11 of Archie's Sonic X comic, collapsed underneath a pile of Sonic 1-era Badniks.

The Egg Pawn army introduced in Sonic Heroes bears more than a passing resemblance to the traditional Eggrobos.

[edit] Froggy

Froggy in Sonic X.
Froggy in Sonic X.

The pet and best friend of Big the Cat, Froggy is a large frog. During the course of Sonic Adventure and part of Sonic X, Froggy swallows both a part of Chaos and a Chaos Emerald. Abducted by E-102 Gamma, Froggy was taken to the Egg Carrier. Big pursued him, and recovered his friend. However, the Chaos Emerald and the part of Chaos he had swallowed were absorbed into Chaos, allowing it to become Chaos 6, but was eventually rescued by Big with the aid of Sonic. They then took the Tornado 2 back to Mystic Ruins (where Chaos found the final Chaos Emerald to become Perfect Chaos in the final story).

In Sonic Heroes, Froggy and Chocola Chao were abducted by Metal Sonic. Big and his allies in Team Rose came running, and after much searching recovered Froggy from Metal Sonic's Eggman android. Froggy was, apparently, kidnapped so Metal Sonic could copy the residual data of Chaos. Though this clashes with Adventure's story because Froggy was supposed to have given up every drop of Chaos that still possessed him.

An interesting suggestion is that Froggy originates from Frog Forest, a level in Sonic Heroes, which has giant frogs that can summon forth rain and bear a very strong resemblance to Froggy.

[edit] Giant Frogs

The Giant Frogs play an important role in the Sonic Heroes levels Frog Forest and Lost Jungle. The frogs have the ability to make it rain, either making plants grow rapidly or destroying them. The green frogs make plants grow and allow the characters to access new areas of the jungle. The black frogs make plants wither and die. The frogs are easily startled, causing them activate their powers. Team Chaotix have to avoid detection from the frogs during their mission, as they are supposedly discovered by Eggman's robots during rain.

[edit] Honey

Honey was a prototype character for Sonic the Fighters but did not make it in the final version. Honey was based on Honey from Fighting Vipers, but she now looks like a cat-like Sonic character. However, it is possible to play Honey if you hack into the Arcade version. (She is also in the Sonic Gems Collection version, but her data has been garbled beyond repair.)

[edit] King Boom Boo

King Boom Boo is a boss character in the game Sonic Adventure 2. He is the leader of the ghosts in the Death Chamber level, and like other ghosts in the Sonic universe he is repelled by light.

Knuckles encounters King Boom Boo while searching for keys to a door Sonic and the others were trying to get through. Back in the Pumpkin Hill stage prologue, he said that he wasn't afraid of ghosts, but apparently he was. In the boss battle, Knuckles runs around a circular arena while followed by King Boom Boo who throws blue fireballs at him. Occasionally the ghost stops to spew a huge blue wave of flames, and during that time Knuckles must stun King Boom Boo by activating an hourglass which opens panels in the ceiling, making light fill the room. King Boom Boo has not appeared in any game since Sonic Adventure 2, and may have been destroyed after his defeat.

In Sonic X, King Boom Boo appears several episodes before the Sonic Adventure 2 adaption. He haunts an ancient castle along with the smaller Boom Boos and Boos, but is trapped in it forever by Sonic and his friends.

[edit] Lumina Flowlight

Lumina Flowlight is the Queen of Maginaryworld from the game Sonic Shuffle. She bears a resemblance to Cosmo, but more so to NiGHTS. In fact, a cheat replaces Lumina with NiGHTS in much of Sonic Shuffle.

There is also another queen named Illumina, but it may be that she is a complete version of Lumina Flowlight once she fused with Void.

[edit] Metal Knuckles

Metal Knuckles, as seen in promotional art for Sonic R.
Metal Knuckles, as seen in promotional art for Sonic R.

Just as Metal Sonic is the robot counterpart to Sonic, Metal Knuckles is the doppelgänger of Knuckles. He has Knuckles' strength, with even greater speed. In terms of videogames, Metal Knuckles only appeared in Sonic R. Metal Knuckles was the character that went through the most shortcuts, following this character was the easiest way to find the quickest route to the finish line. Aside from Sonic R, a counterpart of a similar appearance made various appearances in Sonic the Comic in the UK, under the Metallix name. A robotic version of Knuckles also an appearance as a boss in Sonic Advance. It is unknown whether or not it is the same robot, but it looks much different. It is generally referred to as Mecha Knuckles by fans. He had virtually every move Knuckles had, plus the ability to shoot rockets from his mouth. He had to be hit 6 times, the first 3 only remove his armor.

In the "Archie" Sonic comics the Freedom Fighters were once forced to roboticize Knuckles to combat a roboticized version of Sonic, and Knuckles was dubbed "Mecha Knuckles". In the british Sonic the Comic, he was a new version of the Metallixes, loyal only to Robotnik and with increased strength. It made its debut capturing Sonic from the Drakon Empire and then acting as a Prosecutor in Sonic's trial-by-combat, and it came very close to killing him until Tails destroyed it by sheer luck. The Metallix was only reused once, as Grimer used it to defeat Sonic so he could discover from him what happened to Robotnik; he then faked things so Sonic wouldn't remember this and instead think he beat Metallix. In its three clashes with Sonic, the Knuckles Metallix has never been defeated. It was shown at one point that Robotnik had a whole army of them, but they were never shown in use and may well have been eliminated when Sonic cleared out Flickies' Island.

His likelihood for a possible return is very low since he was only used once, and he is one of the few characters who did not appear in the poll at Sonic Channel. [2] Despite his small appearance in the series, he has become a well-recieved and popular character, often considered one of the popular robot characters after Metal Sonic, Emerl, E-102 Gamma and E-123 Omega.

[edit] Omochao

Omochao.
Omochao.

Omochao is a metallic Chao with a propeller on its head. Its name is a play on the Japanese word omocha, which means "toy". In some games he is renamed Robochao in English, but he is always called Omochao (オモチャオ?) in Japanese. In Japan, or with Japanese language settings, he almost always adds "Chao" at the ends of his sentences.

Omochao is featured in the games Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for Sega Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and for the Nintendo GameCube, Sonic Pinball Party, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Advance 3, for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and the multi-console games Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Riders.

In Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, Omochao was voiced by Lani Minella, while in Sonic Riders and in any possible future appearances Omochao will be voiced by Amy Palant.

In Sonic Adventure Omochao appears in the racing stadium by the door inside the Station Square Chao Garden. It is in the Chao Races to show which direction the Chao are supposed to go, even though there is a place where a Chao can disobey directions and take a shortcut.

In Sonic Adventure 2 Omochao replaces Tikal's hint orbs from Sonic Adventure as the in-game manual. It can be picked up and thrown as well as used to destroy enemies. When attacked, picked up, thrown, or put down, it makes remarks. Some people find it cute and useful, while others use its ability to be thrown and 'hurt' as a method of punishment for being annoying. Omochao also appears in Sonic Adventure 2 as a tutorial narrator, an unlockable menu theme, and the melee attack of the Chao Walker in 2-Player Battle Mode. The Dark Chao Walker uses a black and red version of Omochao named the "Dark Omochao".

In Sonic Battle Cream plants Omochao bombs as her Trap attack.

In Sonic Heroes Omochao is the tutorial guide in Sea Gate and the guide for the system screens.

In Sonic Advance 3, Omochao appears outside of stages where he gives the player information, if the player stands beside him and presses up. He also appears during the ending, where he takes a picture of the game's heroes right before the credits.

In Shadow The Hedgehog there is an unlockable Omochao Gun that shoots out Omochao heads. They have a wide range and can bounce off walls. When upgraded, the weapon is capable of killing most enemies with a single shot.

Omochao also commentates on the races in Sonic Riders, but Amy Palant's take-on of the character makes Omochao sound a little different (more feminine), and it makes many people unaware it is actually Omochao until the end of the Dark Desert stage in Babylon Story Mode where he appears on the news.

Omochao also appears as a mag in some of the Phantasy Star Online games.

The Sonic series has created a running joke about Omochao being used as a weapon, possibly as "revenge" for his sometimes annoying nature and useless advice. The occurrences include throwing him at enemies in Sonic Adventure 2, using him as the melee weapon for the Chao Walkers in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and shooting his heads out of a gun in Shadow the Hedgehog.

[edit] Pachacamac

Pachacamac in Sonic X.
Pachacamac in Sonic X.

Pachacamac (or Chief Pachacamac, and sometimes known as Pochacamac) is a reddish-brown echidna who is Tikal's father. He is 52 years old, is three feet and nine inches tall, and weighs 106 pounds[citation needed]. He first appeared in Sonic Adventure in various flashbacks to the past that the characters experience due to Tikal (in the form of a glowing ball). He is named after an Incan deity.

Pachacamac inherited his chief rank from his mother and he is a greedy warmonger. Although at first he loved his daughter, he lost all compassion when his wife died. Tikal did try to talk her father out of his waring ways but ultimately failed. Later, along with a group of echidna warriors, he tried to take the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald as he considered them a key to the Echidna tribes' survival. Tikal tried to defend the shrine and the Chao living there, but Pachacamac ignored her pleas and ordered the warriors to go on. Tikal is pushed aside and the Chao of the shrine were knocked out in the process. (This is because they reappear in the game's ending) This angered their guardian Chaos who appeared and used the Chaos Emeralds to become Perfect Chaos. Pachacamac and his warriors were killed and the Echidna city was largely destroyed. This caused his daughter Tikal to rush to the Master Emerald to plead that it got Chaos under control.

In the Archie comic book, he lived near the Mysterious Cat City (or Country) and had a disagreement with the Cat people. They started a battle, but when he started to lose, he tried to take the Chaos Emeralds, angering and getting killed by Chaos.

In the British Sonic the Comic, Pochacamac (his name was altered to match his different personality) is far more benevolent, and has a strong relationship with his daughter. In this continuity, the Drakon Empire waged war with the Echidnas. When the Drakons first came to ancient Mobius, they took over the sacred Echidna emerald mines in an attempt to find a suitable vessel for their unstable new energy source. This 'Chaos Energy' was insecure, but the Echidnas' emeralds were found to be the ideal container. Pochacamac then ordered his men to recapture the emeralds to save the galaxy from the Drakons.

Using an advanced form of Chaos Control, he and Tikal successfully transported Sonic into the distant past. Sonic assisted Knuckles in the capture of a Drakon Prosecutor so Pochacamac could negotiate for a peaceful compromise, but the plan went sour when the Drakons made an unexpected advance. In the resulting battle, the Chaos Emeralds were struck by a stray energy beam, driving the already unstable energy past its limit and dousing the captured Drakon Prosecutor, leading to the creation of Chaos.

Tikal says this is only the beginning of the Great War, and the Echidnas begin a futile attack on Chaos. Using the power of the Emeralds, Pochacamac sent Sonic back to the future time with the a portion of Chaos' power, weakening the creature enough to seal it away. When the battle was won, Pochacamac, Tikal, and Knuckles thought about the beginning of a war that would determine what would happen to the Echidnas. Although they knew Knuckles would somehow survive for the next 8000 years, they realized that everything else was lost.

In Sonic X, his actions are the same as those in the game, with only a slight difference in appearance as his eyes are open instead of constantly closed.

Because this character came from the past, he is never seen again after Sonic Adventure.

In Sonic Adventure, Pachamac was voiced by Steve Broadie. In Sonic X, he is voiced by Dan Green.

[edit] Ray the Flying Squirrel

Ray the Flying Squirrel
Ray the Flying Squirrel

Ray is a heroic flying squirrel in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He has only appeared as a main character in SegaSonic the Hedgehog, although he has an expanded role in certain other Sonic continuities. This is particularly notable in the Archie comics series, in which he is a member of the Chaotix team (see Chaotix#Ray the Flying Squirrel for information about his role in that series).

During SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Ray was captured by Doctor Eggman along with Mighty the Armadillo and Sonic the Hedgehog. During their escape, the three jointly foiled one of Eggman's plots. In the game, one of the earliest to feature a voice cast, Ray's voice was provided by H. Kanamaru.

Ray's abilities include the basic Spin Dash (in his sole game appearance, he had the same game controls as both Sonic and Mighty), and he is also rather agile. Being a flying squirrel, he can likely glide through the air. Plus, Ray has a very strong and flexible tail which he can swing from and stand on.[citation needed]

Since SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Ray has only made a cameo as a keychain in Gale Racer since.

[edit] Tails Doll

The Tails Doll.
The Tails Doll.

The Tails Doll (also mistakenly called "Puppet Tails") is a doll version of Miles "Tails" Prower built by Dr. Eggman. It is a secret character in the game Sonic R, unlocked by finding the 5 tokens in the "Radical City" track and finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the race. Tails Doll has poor handling, average acceleration and average top speed. Its jumping abilities are quirky, too, since it cannot jump very high, but seems able to float as it can glide over water in the courses. It is also the only character who can float over the water without slowing down after a period of time. Tails Doll is also one of the few characters who did not appear in the character poll by Sonic Channel.[1]

[edit] The President

The President resides in Central City, the Capital of the United Federation. He lives in a building very similar to the White House. The President appears in Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog. He has an admiration for Sonic and Shadow for their deeds of saving the world from "tyranny and annihilation." He is voiced by Steve Broadie in Sonic Adventure 2, and by Maddie Blaustein in Shadow the Hedgehog. He is also mentioned by Rouge during Sonic Heroes; if you stand still for too long, Rouge will say "I haven't seen the President lately."

In Sonic X, a different president is seen, taking the place of the president seen in the games during the animated adaptations of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. This president is gray-haired and stockier than the one seen in the games. After Perfect Chaos's attack on Station Square, he is seen signing papers with "Michael R."

Another president is seen in Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie, a constantly nervous man who lives with his daughter Sarah and knows a local owl, who is apparently an assistant of his (albeit an unreliable one).

[edit] The President's Secretary

The President's Secretary appears in Sonic Adventure 2 and is heard in Shadow the Hedgehog. She is seen with the President in his limosine and appears to be oblivious to the events happening around her when Sonic and Tails leap into the limo to pick up Eggman's coordinates, but it might be because she received a message from the agent, Rouge the Bat. In Shadow the Hedgehog she speaks to the President via an answering machine, and during Expert Mode, she twice reminds him of his casual meetings (such as sharing tea) with other world leaders. There is also a way to get her as the background theme for the options menu in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

[edit] Tiara Boobowski

Tiara Boobowski is a character designed as a playable character in Sonic X-treme, a canceled game for the Sega Saturn. According to Chris Senn, the lead designer of the project, Tiara was supposed to be a Manx kitten with an attitude similar to Sonic. She was to be sporty and outgoing. Tiara was also designed as a love interest for Sonic. She and her father, Gazebo Boobowski, were the keepers of the magical Rings Of Order. As the storyline for Sonic X-treme goes, Robotnik had tried to steal the rings, and Tiara and her father asked Sonic to stop Robotnik.

Void
Void

The original concept of Tiara resembled more of a bandicoot than a Manx cat, but the final version of Tiara resembles more of a female hedgehog with hair instead of quills. It was recently discovered in a proposed script for the game that the game was to be an RPG type with character team acitons similar to those of Sonic Advance 3 and based in the SatAM cartoon featuring the Freedom Fighters. Tiara was to be the daughter of the NanoWorld King and was stated to have power over some form of electricity, but that was turned down.

[edit] Void

The imp-like villain from Sonic Shuffle. Throughout the game, Void shows signs of depression and loneliness which touches the hearts of Sonic and his friends who, in turn, want to help him amidst the evilness within him. Cosmo from Sonic X has a startling resemblance to this villain.

[edit] Characters from Sonic X

[edit] Bokkun

Bokkun from Sonic X.
Bokkun from Sonic X.

Bokkun is employed by Doctor Eggman to send messages to Sonic that come in a form of a TV that blows up in anyone's face. Bokkun gets mistreated and cries very easily, due to Eggman always hurting him. His pleasures include annoying people with bombs or eating various desserts, and he is very loyal to Eggman, who he treats like a father or creator. Bokkun can fly using a jetpack, and has a boiling point temper. He even once called upon the Egg Golem also seen in Sonic Adventure 2. There's some to debate as to whether Bokkun is a robot or an anthropomorphic animal, although a caption in an issue of the Sonic X comic refers to him as "Dr. Eggman's delivery robot." Early in the series' third season, Bokkun is forced to help Rouge the Bat, who blackmails him with a locket he owns, threatening to show everyone the picture of the girl inside it, whom Bokkun has a crush on. The scene where his crush is revealed to be Cream the Rabbit is cut out of the English version.

Bokkun looks like a black, gold eyed type of Dark Chao with blue and white patches without his bauble, and a pale green rucksack over his shoulder, where he keeps his privileged bombs. He uses an "M" on his belt buckle, which refers to Dr. Eggman's name for him, "Messenger Robo". He is somewhat similar to Bean the Dynamite, since they both have a liking to explosives.

Bokkun is voiced by Andrew Rannells. Ironically, although Bokkun sounds more like a female, his voice actor is a male.

[edit] Chuck Thorndyke

Chuck Thorndyke.
Chuck Thorndyke.

Chuck Thorndyke is the paternal grandfather of Chris Thorndyke. He is a scientist and inventor. He always is helping Chris, Sonic and the gang out whenever they need help. He is 55 years old.

Much in the same way that Chris bonds with Sonic the Hedgehog during the latter's stay with the family, and the maid Ella bonds with Cream the Rabbit, Chuck forms a close friendship with Tails, who shares his love of inventing.

Many fans believe his name is a reference to the SatAM and Archie Sonic continuities as his nickname "Chuck" and his full name "Charles" are shared by SatAM and Archie Sonic's uncle.

He bares an uncanny resemblance to Dr. Emmett Brown of the Back To The Future films.

[edit] Decoe and Bocoe

Decoe and Bocoe are Dr. Eggman's personal assistant robots. Decoe is a tall, slim and gold-colored, while Bocoe is short, stubby and silver. They are almost constantly seen with Eggman, helping him pilot his machinery among other things. The two seems to have basically the same personalities, and are somewhat clumsy and similar to Scratch and Grounder from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Decoe and Bocoe can also "combine" in various ways. The first one, where Bocoe sits on top of Decoe, gives them the ability to summon Bokkun. The second one is somewhat more useful in combat, as they combine into a rocket launcher (seen in Episode 75). They also have a common dream that they can combine into a powerful battle robot, but it is merely a fantasy.

In the US version of Sonic X, Decoe is voiced by Andrew Rannells and Bocoe is voiced by Darren Dunstan.

[edit] Ella

Ella is Chris Thorndyke's large and jolly maid, possibly of Hispanic descent. Ella seems to enjoy her job, but she dislikes dirt. Ella meets Sonic and the others quickly, after Cream blows her cover at Chris' birthday party. Ella quickly made a close relationship with Cream and Amy. She can become hotheaded at times and can practically do anything when in a bad mood, even piloting the X Tornado. Ella entered the Emerald Fighting Tournament, battling Big the Cat with a frying pan. Froggy hopped out of Big's fur and jumped on Ella, causing her to faint. However, Big was disqualified for going out of the ring while running from Ella. This entire fight was removed from the American 4kids dub version, as Big's role in the English version is much smaller than in the original.

In the English dub, Ella speaks with a stereotypical Spanish accent. She was probably meant to have a Mexican accent, but a Spanish one was mistakenly used. She's voiced by Mike Pollock, who also provides Dr. Eggman's voice. In the original Japanese version, she is voiced by deep-voiced female seiyuu Kujira.

[edit] Helen

Helen is Chris Thorndyke's classmate, who is handicapped. She sometimes accompanies Sonic and his friends on their adventures. When they are young, she shows signs of having romantic feelings toward Chris, but in the future, Helen and Chris are romantically involved with each other. She also looks a bit like Maria Robotnik.

[edit] Mr. Tanaka

Mr. Tanaka is Chris Thorndyke's Japanese butler. He is tall, thin, looks very stern and wears glasses. He is a skilled martial artist and develops a relationship with Topaz in the first series. He somewhen discovered the presence of Sonic and the others long before Ella did and revealed his secret to Chris when he found him scolding Cream. Tanaka entered the Emerald Fighting Tournament and was defeated by Emerl. In the French dub, his first name is revealed to be Edward. In the English dub, he speaks with a stereotypical Japanese accent and is voiced by Darren Dunstan.

[edit] Hertia/Earthia

Hertia.
Hertia.

Hertia (called Earthia in the English 4kids dub) is the mother of Galaxina and Cosmo. She is presumably the leader of Cosmo's clan, and chose to flee after the Green Planet was destroyed. Surviving on a fake Planet Egg, she transformed into her true self; a giant tree. The seeds that come from this tree make new offspring, depending if cared for or not. After that, she gives birth to the last of her offspring, which is Cosmo. She then grew weaker and died when the Metarex landed on their ship. She later appears in a holographic image on the abandoned Green Planet, showing how the planet fell. At the final moment of the forestation project, Hertia appears to Cosmo and tells her what to do, and suddenly, Cosmo's amulet shatters. Her last appearance is when Dark Oak has been defeated; suddenly a light (which is Hertia) appears to him and says that they have a second chance. They both then disappear in a flash of light and are never seen again.

[edit] Characters from Sonic Underground

[edit] Aman-Rapi

An ancestor of Queen Aleena Hedgehog, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic, Aman-Rapi was a sorcerer and prophet. In his own time, Aman-Rapi foretold the coming of Dr. Robotnik, and inscribed a blueprint on how to defeat him on a scroll which was placed in his tomb. Later, when Sonic and the others came looking for the scroll, Aman-Rapi's mummified minions mistook Sonic for him. The reason for this was revealed as the spirit of Aman-Rapi himself appeared, similar in appearance-except for an Egyptian outfit-and personality to Sonic. After the Sonic Underground granted his request for a song, he used his spell of immobility to freeze the invading enemies long enough for them to escape. Unfortunately, the scroll was so old that when it was removed from its tube, it crumbled to dust. However, Aman-Rapi had left one message: inscribed on the tube was a hieroglyph which translated meant "Hedgehogs will prevail" or as Sonic put it "Hedgehogs rule."

[edit] Bartleby

Sir Bartlby of Dresdin is a posh aristocratic mink and one the richest civilians of Robotropolis. He is Sonia's fiance. Pompous in every sense of the word, Bartlby loves nothing better than drinking rosebud tea, and himself. He cares deeply for Sonia's welfare, despite these shortcomings, but thinks her brothers are a bad influence on her. However, Bartlby and Sonic have had to join forces at times, including helping Sonia get to the debutante ball. In Bartlby the Prisoner, Bartlby was announced an enemy to Robotnik and was put on trial. He was purposely found guilty, thrown in jail and was scheduled to be roboticized, but the royal siblings helped him escape and he had to go into hiding to escape Robotnik's forces. He shares an uncanny resemblance with Antoine D'Coolette from the Archie comics and SatAM.

[edit] Chomps

The pet of Knuckles the Echidna, Chomps is a carnivorous dinosaur with a green underside and the top of his body being red. Chomps is the only other known inhabitant of Sonic Undeground's Floating Island, and served Knuckles by devouring intruders who came onto the island. He wanted to eat Sleet and Dingo, but after Knuckles released them they ran away, leaving behind a holo-projector with falsfied images of Sonic, Sonia, and Manic planning to steal the Chaos Emerald. Chomps ate the projector, causing the images to appear out of his mouth and nostrils. Thanks to this, the Hedgehogs were able to determine why Knuckles was attacking them. Chomps only appeared in the episode Friend or Foe.

[edit] Dingo

A big, orange creature, probably a dingo, Dingo is the dimwitted partner of bounty hunter Sleet from Sonic Underground. His outward demeanor denotes a tough person but he is quite soft deep inside. Hired by Robotnik to hunt down the royal family, Dingo quickly develops a crush on Sonia, which she often uses to her advantage. Dingo is also very gullible, doing whatever Sleet tells him, and frequently not understanding an insult or parts of a sentence. An example of Dingo's stupidity is when Sleet hunts down the Queen Aleena ferry in Port Mobius. He succeeds in finding it using a submarine's periscope and declares it is a sitting duck, but Dingo gets the wrong end of the stick and asks why they are going to sink an innocent duck. Another example would be when Sleet says, "In your case that would be an improvement", which is an insult to Dingo saying that he would look better roboticized. Dingo foolishly answers, "Really? Thanks!" not knowing that Sleet's meaning was rather sardonic in nature.

Dingo's only real usefulness is in his odd ability to change shape. When Sleet presses the button on his remote, Dingo can turn into any solid object or lifeform. Such items he has disguised himself as include a chilli dog stand, a fly, a baby, a basket and even a woman. Despite this, he consistently retains his orange and yellow colours.

Despite his incompetence, Dingo can be quite dangerous. While disguised, he can become a dangerous trap in waiting. In one episode, he even absorbed the energies of a broken Chaos Emerald. This caused him to mutate into a giant monster that threatened to destroy the planet.

[edit] Sleet

A wolf with purple body armor and blue cape, Sleet is cunning, greedy and manipulative. He was once an independent contractor partnered with the idiotic Dingo, but Robotnik 'persuaded' them to work exclusively for him. His task is to hunt down the Sonic Underground band, Queen Aleena, and other Freedom Fighters.

Because of Dingo's incompetence, Sleet often makes him into a scapegoat, and never hesitates to use the strange remote that transforms Dingo into other objects. Despite countless failures, Sleet does on occasion have a successful plan up his sleeve. Sometimes he and Dingo think of plans that make them turn on Robotnik, but these never go well.

[edit] Breezie

Breezie was a voluptuous robot who first appeared in the episode "Lovesick Sonic", saved by Sonic, who fell in love with her. However, she was really a robot built by Dr. Robotnik as a trap for the hero. Breezie however found she could not eliminate Sonic, caring too much for him. She also decided that despite these feelings, their relationship would not work. Breezie later fell in love with Robotnik Jr., another of Robotnik's creations.

Breezie's design resembles, very closely, Jessica Rabbit's from the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It was re-used for other hedgehogs in the series.

[edit] Da Bears

Big Griz and Big Mike, together otherwise known as "Da Bears", are two less-than-intelligent bears who claim to be Sonic's biggest fans. While rather thick, Da Bears are skilled drivers and are determined to help out Sonic in any way they can.

In their first appearance, The Robotnik Express, Da Bears break into a Robotnik-owned train en route to his munitions factory (Robotnik's Emporium of Devastation, Destruction, and Demolition) when they hear that Scratch and Grounder had captured Sonic and Tails. Of course, by the time they got there, Sonic had already turned the tables on the robots and escaped, leading Da Bears to mistake Scratch and Grounder for Sonic and Tails. At first, Da Bears follow "Sonic and Tails" thinking that the real heroes were the robots. Sonic, however, eventually clears up the confusion and later allies with Da Bears to keep the explosive-laden train from crashing into a valley village.

[edit] Lucas and Lucinda

Lucas and Lucinda were teenage lovers featured in the episode "Best Hedgehog". According to a flashback by Lucas shown within, they were lab partners in high school; Robotnik didn't take kindly to this, as he also had unrequited romantic feelings for Lucinda. When he attempted to "take care of" Lucas using a robot snake and promise Lucinda "a quarter of everything [he would] plunder", it only got him expelled. After building his fortress, Robotnik imprisoned Lucas.

The episode opens with Sonic and Tails breaking into Robotnik's fortress thirty years later to rescue Lucas, who now resembles a walking haystack due to the fact that he's never had a haircut during his imprisonment. Furious with this, Robotnik orders Scratch and Grounder to go recapture "that hairball", claiming that Lucas ruined his romance with Lucinda. Robotnik is apparently in denial about what happened, as he later refers to Lucas as "Lucinda's true love" right in front of Scratch and Grounder, which causes some confusion to them as they still believe his earlier claim.

Lucinda, meanwhile, has been teaching a kindergarten class in a nearby jungle - something that Robotnik is aware of (and surprisingly has never used to his advantage). Lucas and Sonic, on the other hand, do not know this until Grounder accidentally blurts it out to them. After recapturing Lucas and trying to trap him in a volcano, Robotnik heads for the schoolhouse to propose marriage to Lucinda, not knowing that she's not there. Sonic tricks him by pretending to marry Robotnik himself, during which Tails gives Lucas a haircut. Afterwards, Sonic gets Lucas to propose to Lucinda, and at their (quickie) wedding, Sonic serves as the best man (hence the episode's title).

It should be noted that, although Lucinda does look older in the present than in the flashbacks, she looks rather young for someone who is most likely in her 40's, and Lucas does not look any older in the present than he does in the flashbacks. Observant viewers will also notice that, while covered with his own hair, Lucas does not seem to be wearing a shirt, pants, shoes, or glasses; but after his haircut, he is suddenly dressed in all of those clothing articles without any explanation. Lucas also bears a few similarities in appearance to Waldo, from the "Where's Waldo?" books.

[edit] Miss Possum

A sweet (and short) lady possum, she was Sonic & Tails' friend in the town of Tranquil Gulch, who brought them to the town to sort out its problems there. Once they were cleared up, she was made Sheriff.

Miss Possum was a very stereotypical "good ol' gal from out west", the kind that can be found running brothels or singing in saloons in many Westerns. She bares a slight resemblance to Dolly Parton.

[edit] Prince Charnock and Splorg

Prince Charnock and Splorg are special guest stars who appear in "Close Encounters of the Sonic Kind". Charnock is a green lizard-like alien with a squid-like head, while Splorg is a floating spectacled red blob resembling a red blood cell. Charnock is on vacation and seems to be a bit of an idiot, while Splorg is smart, pompous and arrogant. The two crash-land their ship on Mobius thanks to Robotnik's new Electro-Suction Plate, while on their way back to their homeplanet of Rhombus. Charnock is supposed to be crowned king of the planet in just two hours, but their ship is now in pieces. It also revealed that Charnock is on vacation, but if he cannot reach his coronation in time, his unnamed baby brother will become king and destroy Mobius.

Sonic and Tails rescue the two from Scratch and Grounder and help them locate the missing pieces of their ship. However, after Sonic finds most, the ship's two most important pieces are missing - the cockpit's pressurizing canopy and the naviagational nose-cone. The four head off to find them, quickly finding the cockpit canopy. Charnock is fascinated by the planet's nature but he nearly is eaten by a snake, steps into a river and falls down a cliff. During a landslide, the heroes and the robots accidentally mix up the ship's nose-cone for Grounder's nose. Sonic defeats Scratch and Grounder, but soon discovers Robotnik has Tails, Charnock and Splorg prisoner. Sonic gives himself up to save his friends and Mobius, and the aliens gets their nose-cone back. Charnock has one last trick up his sleeve, photographing Robotnik's hovercraft, but "accidentally" knocking over a giant rock that crushes Robotnik. The four race back to the spaceship and Charnock and Splorg head off to the coronation. Charnock also reveals before leaving that his baby brother is literally his baby brother - he's only two years old!

[edit] Professor Von Schlemmer

Professor Von Schlemmer is a kooky scientist that has orange hair and green skin. When Sonic or Tails are in danger, they sometimes see him for a device which he invents that can stop Robotnik or find each other such as when Sonic was trapped in a temple in the episode Tails' Tale. However Professor Von Schlemmer sometimes forgets his name in a few episodes and asks himself who is he, which Sonic or Tails reply that he is Von Schlemmer. Some of his inventions include Gizmo Gas (makes an object grow), Dream-ma-ma-jig (can get dreams into the real world) and Portable Dream-ma-ma-jig (same as Dream-ma-ma-jig except smaller and looks like a night cap).

[edit] Wes Weasley

Mobius's number one salesman/con artist. Wes Weasley is often recognized for his yellow suit and his merchandise of questionable quality. Being a salesman, Wes doesn't really care who's buying from him, so long as he gets his pay. He's quick to leave if things start going wrong however.

Robotnik despises Wes due to many of Wes's products backfiring on him. However, his minions continue to purchase from Wes, despite all the trouble that usually coincide with the products. One time, Coconuts went on a shopping spree and forwarded all of the payments to Robotnik without his knowing.

He is voiced by Michael Donovan but however Tony Rosato and James Rankin (Luigi and Cheatsy Koopa from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3) were considered the role.

[edit] Characters from Sonic Christmas Blast

[edit] Santa Claus

This version of Santa Claus lives on Sonic's home planet of Mobius, with the familiar task of delivering presents to children on Christmas Eve. He appeared in Sonic Christmas Blast, in which Dr. Robotnik planned to steal Christmas and rule the world. Santa apparently announced his retirement, but in truth he had been replaced by Metal Claus, a dimwitted robot who was only programmed to say things revolving around Christmas. Robotnik held Santa captive in a nearby mountain, but Sonic was there to rescue Santa and foil Robotnik's plan. As a gift, Santa gave his job to Sonic, and Christmas was saved.

[edit] Metal Claus

Metal Clause is an unintelligent robot that "replaced' the real Santa in Sonic Christmas Blast. He was involved in an evil scheme to take over Christmas. He was made out of cardboard and doesn't really resemble Santa at all. Apparently, the only things he can say are Christmas-related things. For example, when Metal Clause, Scratch, and Grounder are attached to a giant magnet and Sonic releases it, Metal Clause yells "Happy holidays!". He was then destroyed when he hit the ground.
