Otaihanga
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Otaihanga is a small town that forms part of the Kapiti Urban Area on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is located near Paraparaumu on the south bank of the Waikanae River. It is primarily a residential area, and although farming used to take place in the area, this has ceased as residential developments have been built. The Kapiti rubbish tip is also located in Otaihanga.
Otaihanga is best known for the Southward Car Museum, one of the largest collections of cars in the Southern Hemisphere. This is located near State Highway 1 and the North Island Main Trunk railway. The railway line that runs through Otaihanga was formerly owned by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, and when it was completed in 1886, the final spike was driven in at a location in Otaihanga.
