Ossie Schectman

Oscar B. "Ossie" Schectman (born March 30, 1919 in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York, U.S.) is an American former professional basketball player.

He was a member of the original New York Knickerbockers in their inaugural National Basketball Association season in 1946/47. He scored the first points in league history when the Knickerbockers played the first game in NBA history, against the Toronto Huskies.[1] Schectman began his playing career at Samuel Tilden High School in Brooklyn and later played at Long Island University, at that time a powerhouse under coach Clair Bee.
