Osred

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Osred of Hwicce was a thegn, who was granted land at Aston Blank and Notgrove in modern Gloucestershire by a charter (S 99) in 743 from Æthelbald, the King of Mercia.

In this charter, he is described as de stirpe non ignobili prosapia regali gentis Huicciorum, which is sometimes used to include him among the Kings of Hwicce; however, not every member of a royal house is a king.

Nevertheless, Ashley (1998), in his compendium of figments and fantasy, not only called him a king, but provided details of his supposed reign.
