Osmani International Airport - Sylhet (IATA: ZYL, ICAO: VGSY) serves Bangladesh's northeastern city of Sylhet and the Division of Sylhet which comprises of the districts Habiganj, Maulavibazar, Sunamganj and Sylhet. It was formerly known as Sylhet Civil Airport, and was named after General M A G Osmani, a Bangladeshi Independence War hero who served as the Supreme Commander of the Mukti Bahini (Freedom Force) and Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War. General Osmani was born in Sylhet in 1918.
The airport was built during British rule of the Indian Subcontinent, partly to check Japanese aggression from Burma.
Most flights to Osmani Internaitonal Airport are from Zia International Airport in Dhaka, however there are some international flights as well.
