Oshima Subprefecture

Oshima (渡島支庁, -shichō^?) is a subprefecture of Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. As of 2004 it had a population of 456,621 and an area of 3,715.38 km².

• On December 1, 2004 the town of Minamikayabe from Kayabe District and the towns of Esan and Toi and the village of Todohokke from Kameda District merged into the city of Hakodate.

• On April 1, 2005 the towns of Sawara and Mori from Kayabe District merged to form the new town of Mori.

• On October 1, 2005 the town of Kumaishi from Nishi District in Hiyama Subprefecture and the town of Yakumo from Yamakoshi District in Oshima Subprefecture merged to form the new town of Yakumo in the newly created Futami District. The former town of Kumaishi joined Oshima Subprefecture at the same time.

• On February 1, 2006 the towns of Kamiiso from Kamiiso District and Ono from Kameda District merged to form the new city of Hokuto.
