Ornex is a small town and commune in the Ain département of eastern France, located on the RN5 highway between the Jura mountains and the Swiss border.

Located nine kilometres from Geneva, many inhabitants commute across the Swiss border each morning to jobs with international organizations and multinational corporations. The census of 1999 revealed that 62.5% of working residents were employed outside of the Ain département.

A section of the 27 km tunnel excavated by CERN between 1983 and 1988 passes under the town. Originally excavated for the LEP collider, the tunnel will house the Large Hadron Collider that is expected to start operating in 2007. The only visible presence of the LHC tunnel in Ornex are a couple of surface buildings and some large helium gas tanks. Liquid helium is used to cool the LHC's superconducting magnets.

Ornex is relatively well served by restaurants, with approximately one restaurant for every 450 residents.
