The constellation Orion.

Deep sky objects visible in this image include the Orion Nebula (M42), De Mairan's Nebula (M43), M78, NGC 1788, NGC 1973, NGC 1975, NGC 1977, The Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), NGC 2071, NGC 2112, NGC 2141, IC 434, the Horsehead Nebula (B33), Barnard's Loop (SH2-276), and the Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118).

This image was captured by a Canon EOS-300D with a 50mm f/1.4 lens stopped down to f/2.8. The exposure time was 25 minutes with an ISO equivalent of 100. The field of view is 25°34' x 17°10' centered on RA 5h30m dec 0&deg.

The camera was piggyback mounted on a Meade 14" SCT. An SBIG STV autoguider was mounted at prime focus of the SCT. The STV indicated an average guide error of 1.2 arcseconds. The exposure was taken on December 14, 2004 in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico, near the city of Los Alamos.
