Orgrimmar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Orgrimmar is a fictional city in the Warcraft Universe and has appeared in the computer games Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft.

Orgrimmar is the capital of the Orcish kingdom of Durotar. The city was created in the period between the Battle of Mount Hyjal and the time that Maiev Shadowsong starts her hunt for Illidan in Lordaeron. The city is built east of the Barrens, in Durotar, north of Thunder Ridge. Thrall's fortress and one of the Horde auction houses is located there, as well as other important institutions and centers of orcish power. It is the capital city of the Horde. This city is also shared with Trolls, and the Troll Leader, Vol'jin.

After aiding the Trolls in their war with the Murlocs, Thrall promised the Troll leader Sen’jin a new home. When Sen’jin was lost in the final battle of the conflict, his son Vol'jin assumed the role. Since that time the Orcs and the Trolls have shared the city.

The city was named after the late Orgrim Doomhammer, warchief of the Horde during the Second War and Thrall's mentor.

[edit] List of districts

Orgrimmar is a series of long twisting paths designed primarily to confuse invaders. It features the following areas.

  • Valley of Strength is next to the main entrance to Orgrimmar. The guild master, inn, bank, and auction house are located here as well as the city's Windrider Master. Bonfires are constantly lit and guard patrols are heavy just in case interlopers make it past the main gate.
  • The Drag is a cave-like area adjacent to three other areas in Orgrimmar, two being valleys and one being the mysterious Cleft of Shadow. Several wandering vendors and an assortment of profession trainers and stores can be found inside its walls. The upper levels of the Drag are relatively unused except for the Cooking Trainer. Because it is effectively the center of the town, people have become bored from walking through the long dark path and have coined the phrase "it's a drag walking through The Drag."
  • Cleft of Shadow houses the warlock and rogue trainers of the Horde. It is an eerie, cold place but dark spellcasters can find whatever they need here. This area is also the entrance to "Ragefire Chasm," (see below) a Horde instance dungeon beneath Orgrimmar.
  • Valley of Spirits possesses many pet vendors and first aid profession trainers as well as priest and mage trainers. A secondary entrance to the city from the Barrens is also located here. This was the location where the NPCs for the opening of the Ahn'Qiraj gates appeared, and players could turn in the necessary items to prepare for the opening of the gates in Silithus.
  • Valley of Honor houses the warrior castes within the Horde. Not only can you buy weapons and armor here, but the trainers can teach to make your own or use new ones. The Horde side of the "Thorium Brotherhood" reside here as well as the Battlemasters, which allow players to sign up for the various Battlegrounds in the game.
  • Valley of Wisdom This valley is where the Warchief Thrall has his throne inside Grommash Hold surrounded by his advisors including Vol'jin, representative of the Trolls. Here is where the Orc Shamans learn new skills. Outside Grommash Hold, displayed for all to see, is the armor of the Pit Lord, Mannoroth, whose blood gave the Orcs their demonic bloodlust. A plaque sits beneath it honoring the Orc that slew Mannoroth, Grom Hellscream.
  • Ragefire Chasm This is a less used by higher levels area of the city as it is an instance (dungeon) that is designed primarily for the lower level players in the game (as the monsters consist of level 12-15 elites) it is suggested that you have a group of 5 level 12-15's to complete this dungeon.
