[edit] Daisy bates

Her claims dont carry any weight as it refutted at the time as sensationalism to ensure the sale of her book, she was a known fabricator of yarns especially about herself with claims of various ancestry and education. Gnangarra 00:25, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Albany

Hi I think the latest edits look like fraud to me, you any good on local knowledge? SatuSuro 02:41, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that... The randomness of Wikipedians never ceases to amaze me. :P And yes, I can only imagine. I once managed to read the entire talk page for Northern Ireland (my birthplace)... oh, what fun that was. What I call "word value politics" cranked to high gear. Orderinchaos78 02:48, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
And as for IA and C - it'd be a hell of an article to try - buit there's a good anthropologically based art in the 'use of identyifying behaviours' to push certain agendas - it'd probably have to be protected from minute one and it would attract the bs like flies to dead meat! SatuSuro 02:45, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that - I was v impressed the way you and gn fared in last nights issues, barnstars all around! SatuSuro 02:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment - much appreciated! And yeah, I've moderated/admined on web forums and IRC channels full of excitable teenagers for years, so I got my practice :P Orderinchaos78 02:58, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Problem its still going  :( am sure it needs to go higher than just Adam reverting - it needs - a wp page for the outright harrassment! SatuSuro 11:28, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poetic Justice

Poetic Justice - see my edit in Wagin - and response to a revert! SatuSuro 12:17, 16 November 2006 (UTC) No sense of humour! Oh well thems the breaks SatuSuro

You're handling him well :) Orderinchaos78 12:31, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll think I'll try for VP after that - it looks like a potentially dangerous weapon - a bit like popups on steroids! SatuSuro 12:34, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Exterminate!! Exterminate!! Orderinchaos78 12:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, look at the contributions page of anyone who uses it - and see the potential number of harrassed real villains in any one day - it makes our mate at IA look like a pimple compared to the rash! SatuSuro 12:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mt Henry/ Aquinus College

Hi, I think there are two students who may be being assessed by the efforts with these two articles can you tread softly with them, if there is a major concern can you just drop a note on the talk page so that I/we can wlak them through the issues. Thanks Gnangarra 13:38, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Ah no worries. I put the bit on the talk page in an effort to educate them how to do cites/refs properly - it took me a while to get it right and I'm happy to help them on that front (which will also have the effect of producing a better article) If you think I should edit my comments to tone them down a bit I'd be happy to. Orderinchaos78 (t|c) 14:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I think that maybe the use of tags within the article is whats upsetting them, maybe just put suggestions in the talk pages, anyhow it after 2030 here so they'll finished for the night. I saw that, and I'm sure a number of editors enjoy a quiet laugh. Gnangarra 14:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Started arts

Wikipedia:New articles (Australia) - you start stub, you put here too - good stuff! SatuSuro 23:42, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks :) (I feel like I've been let into some inner sanctum!) The unexpectedly rapid launch of the new Place template has been keeping me busy. Orderinchaos78 23:49, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
If we keep up with it -the sheer volume and productivity from wa - it will certainly show the need for a new admin from wa IMHO !!  :) SatuSuro 06:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Jane Brook, Western Australia ... oh dear. :) Love the "middle class" bit. As I said, the randomness of some of our newer Wikipedians never ceases to amuse me. Orderinchaos78 06:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
As for JB - it needs a massive re-write, dont lert me near it or my rottweiler sensitivity (my father was a vet surgeon) will maul the newbie article beyond recognition... heheh SatuSuro 06:27, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok next - WP:DYK find something in your newly created article that can follow the guidelines and get it in - Moondyne is our local world record challenger - search around his page and have a look...  :) SatuSuro 06:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC) Oops best to tryPortal:Australia/Did you know first - linked with the text on the new art page. SatuSuro 06:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Reviewing swanbourne - there's a latent but not started idea of the permanent and seaonsal lakes of the Swan Coastal Plain ( I once had a friend who did his msc on the wanneroo lakes - havent seen him for years) - so thingos like the much reduced Lake Claremont (what an abomination compared to when me and my mum used to fill up old glass jars full of the creatures there) oops too much personal stuff on talk pages again!SatuSuro 12:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hey, thanks. When this was all over I was thinking of making a barnstar for infoboxes, and give it to some people. Of course, the barnstar would itself be an infobox (and probs use ParserFunctions)

Hopefully I dont get fried for non-proper use of a bot though... TheJosh 00:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Perth

Thanks for the info. I reckoned it must have been something like that, but I don't like messing around with templates and anyway they looked ok to me ! To be honest, even as someone who lived near the other Perth, it seems odd not to make Perth a redirect to Perth, Western Australia. It seems a racing cert that a random mention of "Perth" doesn't mean the one in Scotland. Cheers ! Angus McLellan (Talk) 09:41, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Port Biggest and Bestest

Thanks for your help there - its looking better! I am hoping to do a pilbara railways article sometime - which is why i brought the space in the upper section - as I am thinking of putting 'transport hub' as a lead in to the subjecct - apart from the other 33 loose ends :) SatuSuro 12:37, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

I can't believe my NPOV edits earlier lasted barely a few days! My fault for not "watching" it - when I went through and did the infobox I added them all to the watchlist so hopefully this sort of thing will happen less often :P There seems to be this sort of rivalry between Broome, Port Hedland and Karratha where all of them feel they're the biggest in the north. Orderinchaos78 12:40, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
my apologies -(apart from the 1970 hitch to ph and being stuck in marble b for a week on the return trip) I came into the area wiki wise via my father in law - he had been shearer and had been on the ph to mb rlwy line - so i did the art on that... hadnt been watching the regional rivalries - oh well - bit like launceton west coast and hobart by the sounds of it. SatuSuro 12:45, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Or the dreaded NOR vs SOR :) I have in some articles spotted a slight SOR bias (I get to be on both sides as I live north but have worked or studied south for most of my life) Orderinchaos78 12:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Think P Kennedy might need watching...SatuSuro 03:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

For a sense of where my head was this am - hesp and moon's talk p's might give you a good idea. Australind? SatuSuro 03:09, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Australind's a lovely place, I was there not 5 weeks ago ... and hard morning hey? :) Orderinchaos78 (t|c) 03:12, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Never -its all the fun fun! I would say your alerting us (as hesperian and moondyne will be watching in trepidation on my talk page after their messages this am - you could put it there - or you can create a separate sandbox page for yourself and store it in a 'todo' (like my bleauch page - the sins of the past never relinquished yet!) - is one way to do it! Actually the goading on by hesperian and moondyne means that the aust maritime thingy might be bursting out any day now - gawd if i didnt have enough to finialise enough before I go! SatuSuro 03:32, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh well after that leave it on my talk and gn will check it out! SatuSuro 03:35, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Just thought I'd say your photo was really good! Thanks for contributing that. Orderinchaos78 01:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Which image? Also, I am thinking about setting up a WikiProject about the Red Bull Air Race. Would you be interested if I created it?--HamedogTalk|@ 05:33, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Whitfords

I think there's a need for this to be a good eg of what happens when the land developers try naming a place one thing befoire going to the geographic names (precursors nomenclature advisory board - lovely name) and the government call it another thing - are you up on that at all? SatuSuro 06:25, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Even worse - ones that never come to be. Check the Duncraig, Western Australia article for info about "Marmion City", which is now a residential estate in Beach Road and Chessell Drive, Duncraig (and previously a Thiess mining lease!) Oh, and Brighton. :D Orderinchaos78 06:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
well we need to find something that we can cf the developer vs the geographic names resolution.... I have just mucked around with wesfarmers and adelaide terrace you might want to have a look at raw stubs :) SatuSuro 06:54, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for slow replies, am recovering from my own stupidity (I walked from Yanchep to Butler yesterday and while my muscles are fine, my legs got badly sunburnt and are suddenly quite stiff and inflexible :( ) I'll be in the city tomorrow and already have two things (Moondyne's very valid question about the low count of Aboriginals in an 1837 census, plus a couple of newspaper refs) to check at Battye so may look then. Orderinchaos78

[edit] Population counts

(Re: Bentley) Very good point you make. I got it from a single source in the Battye Library (Geoff Gallop's book on Vic Park suburbs), and I've seen a similarly ridiculously low count for the northern suburbs Mooro people (Geoffrey Bolton makes a mention of it in his Claremont book while at the same time saying Jane Currie's contemporaneous diary quoting 40 on Matilda Bay alone contradicts it). Will definitely look into this tomorrow as it seems blatantly silly to have unanswered points on there. Orderinchaos78 11:20, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm sure greater minds than mine will prove me wrong but on the face of it it doesn't make much sense to me. — Moondyne 12:17, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
My guess is that it probably *is* wrong but more an indication of the failure of whatever census methods they had for Aboriginals in 1837 than anything else. :) Orderinchaos78 12:42, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Harvey, Western Australia

I just stumbled on this and was very impressed. Good work. — Moondyne 05:08, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks :) Orderinchaos78 06:11, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fisherman's Bend

Thanks for you contribution of the Fisherman's Bend article. I have had to, however, redirect it to the Port Melbourne, Victoria article and move across the content (minus the infobox). The reason is that it is currently a locality and not a suburb. Make sure you do a search on the Australian Geographical Place Names database http://www.ga.gov.au/map/names/ before adding a suburb. If it comes up with a result of LOCB (Locality Bounded) and is not already in the wiki, it is ok to add. If it comes up with a LOCU (Locality Unbounded) then find the suburb it belongs to first. Chances are the content may already be there. Cheers. --Biatch 06:31, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

the only changes I made were to standardise the infobox and put the geocoords in external links, so no harm done :) Orderinchaos78 08:09, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Perth airport

I might have just done a wrong revert on this art - what do you think? Small cf Singapores Changi maybe - but, ...? SatuSuro 12:39, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. It has a domestic and international terminal with numerous international airlines, regular flights at most times, etc... I think small would be Cairns or Launceston. Orderinchaos78 12:41, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - I'm off for a week tommorrow - probably will send an email before logging off - just as I was getting warmed up to start a whole lot of Indonesian stubs  :( - oh well where I am going has no internet - hmph! SatuSuro 12:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
haha oh well... I know how that feels :P Hope you have a good time! I got completely distracted by Melbourne today. They seem to like the "bring your own wood" approach to infoboxes over there, and I'm part of a group trying to standardise all the geo boxes in Australia. I was supposed to be doing that and ended up writing the entire history of a rather obscure near-urban town. Still recovering from Tuesday - seems the skin on the backs of both knees got badly burnt on my walk. Orderinchaos78 12:52, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Pawpaw (red container) I used to know it as green magic - can be good forthat possibly.... SatuSuro 12:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gould Creek

I took out the part about the power station being in gould creek because it is actually in Hillbank I take it you used the UBD street directory for your infomation. the street directory is wrong with this suburb boundry I don't know why but otherwise it is a good article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mirrabooka (talkcontribs). 25 Nov 2006

Thanks for the info and comments. You're correct re the UBD - it's amazing how many anomalies there are with these directories! We've had a few such issues in the outer east of Perth with local council boundaries. I suppose we can simply add the information to Hillbank, being careful to substitute the correct name where applicable. Edit: Now done. Orderinchaos78 13:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Melbourne suburb infobox standardisation

If anyone is coming here because they want to know what on earth is going on with their Melbourne suburb watchlist, I am doing a massive infobox standardisation as part of the work ongoing at Template:Infobox Australian Place. Orderinchaos78 00:21, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

The infoboxes look good. Where are you getting your information from about the size of the suburbs? Some of it seems a bit dubious. Bangholme is larger than 400 square metres, for example. --ozzmosis 03:58, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree, the templates are good, the tricky part is now incorporating it into articles. Thanks for the encouragement on my articles! Everyone needs to tell eachother when they do a good job the same as when they do a bad job. Thanks heaps. Nick carson 10:46, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Seaforth McKenzie's

Thanks - I am now realised how bloody complicated it is going to do a good disambig on the name and the game - I must explain sometime - my knee is fixed by lots of walking, no tv, no radio and no teenagers for a week - and plenty of air not far from garden island (clue!) no sunburn whatsoever - hope yours fixed up! SatuSuro 14:24, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Sigh - when we get mount isa, kalgoorlie and port hedland all in the one go, then we reach for gnangs flamethrower I say :) Kenneth Seaforth McKenzie was an old guildfordian - author and mates to tge big names in sydney in the 30's and 40's - Seaforth McKenzie was a new zealander who did a runner on his family there and lived on penguin island for 20 or so years - neither have been done but.... SatuSuro 23:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Rumour has it - before he saw the light (which one it was, or was it the switch) our mate moon had 3 or 4, I've only got 2 and a half at the moment. the main thing is to realise how many you have or feel compelled to check/read/watch... it can be nothing short of hysteria if you accidently keep some user pages on yr wtchlist - some of my obscure arts never show up - it can depend on what you have on yr list. oh well. SatuSuro 23:37, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Wow - I'm impressed by Hesperian's comment below - that's what I call keen - ok I'm but a wimp at 2 and a half - wow - better get back to work, its off to unreality we go etc SatuSuro 15:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Don't ever start me on reality. At my age the memory of heisenberg's improbablility theorem printed on the front of tee shirts at uni - and the vast store of what become boring jokes from the late douglas adams about probability and improbability leave any sense of what reality could be enough to start the most boring blog in the universe - better than vogon poetry! SatuSuro 15:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey - its like finding a mallee fowl nest for the first time - there's no welcome, there's no post from an irate editor about sandboxes, there's just the steady clogging the bandwidth and server space - its a gem - maybe some sort of throttled turkey award - or little yellow duck (viz dont bite the newbies principles) that hasnt found its sandbox yet? SatuSuro 15:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Watchlist

I don't think there's a limit. I regularly clean mine out, and I still have 4000 at the moment. Moondyne had over 10,000 before he wiped it and started again. Hesperian 00:34, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

It has its benefits and its drawbacks. On the one hand, nothing escapes my watchlist - yes, I have Port Hedland on there - but on the other hand, you find yourself not even bothering to look at most edits; unless the article is a high priority, you rely on user names / edit summaries / instinct to tell you what edits to check out and what to let slide.
I've only logged on for a sec; no time to check it out now. I'll have a look tonight. Hesperian 08:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey!

I really commend your work with WP:IAP, it makes a huge difference. I noticed you were editing Template:MelbSuburbBox1 the same time I was coz i kept getting edit conflicts (so i moved to Template:Infobox Australian Suburb2 instead.

Anyway, keep up the good work! --TheJosh 06:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gentles does it vs Rottweiler

Maybe you should let gnang and moon know as well - there's the possibility that with holidays starting we're going to get this style of editing on certain arts and we will have to invent a new welcome template specifically for this sort - yellow ducky in the bathtub image with rottweiler image and perhaps some careful delicate explanation of fear of death of bandwidht and wiki server collapse... SatuSuro 08:33, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Ah the silent unresponsive type plodding throughthe trenches unflinching. I am sure there is somewhere someone has done a psych profile of the range of wiki newbies. SatuSuro 12:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Meadow Street

In the Great Eastern Highway article, you state that Meadow Street is signed as State Route 51, not State Route 52. The latter is true, however. If you don't believe me, take a drive out there; after all, I live in the northern foothills, and know all about the roads in the Guildford-Midland area.--M W Johnson 12:57, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Oh, and if you think that is unreliable signage, take a drive both down and up Roe Highway sometime. There are at least 3 incorrect signage occurances heading on the highway southbound, and one heading northbound. See if you can find them!--M W Johnson 13:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Ohmigawd local knowledge again - you need to come up for a cup of tea/tinnie so we can have a laugh about the DLI lack of checkers before they put out the new road directories (!)

Actually - between the Guildford or Helena road bridges and west Midland/Woodbridge the visual chaos for the average punter has not been helped by the signage anyways SatuSuro 02:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brisbane suburbs infobox

Hi,

I see that you're replacing the old template "BrisSuburbBox" with the new infobox. Thanks for doing this! However, I have started a discussion on WP:AWNB#Median_property_prices_in_Brisbane_suburb_articles that might interest you, concerning the "Property Value" field that you're including in all of them. I thought that as you were one of the ones doing a lot of the work, that it might be of particular interest to you.

Cheers,

Lankiveil 02:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC).

I concur, and thanks! However, I've put the suburbs which are in Pine Rivers into their own category (instead of Brisbane), as technically they are not in the Brisbane LGA. --Arnzy (talk contribs) 07:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Hi Orderinchaos78, thanks for your comments. Where did you get the figure of 9000 from as the population of Potts Point? I got the previous number from the 2001 census results. 9000 is a very unlikely round figure. --Gene_poole 02:37, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

That's be fantastic OIC. If possible from the estuary end towards the ocean, particularly taking in the bridge (and if you can get it into the frame, the ocean entrance). Also from the bridge looking down towards the opening into the ocean. And, if possible, the sandtrap on the south groyne (there's some machinery and a small groyne which runs perpendicular to the main south groyne which catches the sand drift coming from the south. of something else - but I suspect we need the Perth road thing with Wellington north boundary, river south, causeway east, and barracks arch west - not every street needs to be done - but Ireckon the disambigs with other places for most of the streets will be fun alone. Will try to let you know somehow of the outcome of the bringing the photo out exercise wqhenerver it happens. SatuSuro 11:50, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Orderinchaos78, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

[edit] Whinge

I was thinking of making a wikimedia extention, like ParserFunctions, say called ParserCode that would provide a complete programming language within the page.

ex:

{{ #code:
  for $a = 0 to 9
    echo "$param[$a]\n"
  next $a
}}

That would look through the first 10 parameters fed to the function, outputting them. --TheJosh 07:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Got your template working, although differently to how you had it. The master IF is clearer now, the top half is the short version, the bottom the long version. Currently the short version is creating a new table for each row, but you could change that behavior, by removing the {{{!}} class="wikitable" style="margin: 2px;" and replacing it with a {{!}}-, and also changing the line {{!}}} | {{{!}} class="prettytable" to | {{{!}} class="prettytable". You would probably want to move that line to the last line so there is no bad whitespace. --TheJosh 12:40, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ex-iiNetGlobal Web?

I picked up your comments in my user talk page. Are you by chance a former employee of the Borg Empire? thewinchester 09:23, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

It's worse, are you employee of that Claremont based ISP who's name shall not be spoken? thewinchester 09:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Then i'm trying to figure out who you are. Care to share a first name? thewinchester 09:47, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Then for heavens sake would you drag your backside onto MSN so I can shout and scream at you, the former independent candidate for the seat of Victoria Park. thewinchester 09:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You lived up to your wikiname on Thuringowa

You created order out of chaos on Thuringowa! I compared the edit series you just completed from when you started and GREAT JOB! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SauliH (talkcontribs) 03:10, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

There is still Thuringowa City Council that should probably be cleaned up, deleted and redirected. Since you have made a start on the whole Thuringowa thing, I will leave it to you to decide what to do with this page if you wish. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mattinbgn (talkcontribs) 05:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Copyright violators

In the future, when this happens, don't hesitate to remove all the copied text unless you can be sure it's not copyrighted. Also, telling off the person who added it is generally reccomended. Thanx for tagging the articel though... 68.39.174.238 21:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
