Ordo Stella Matutina

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hermetic Ordo Stella Matutina (or HoSM) is a modern "quasi-masonic" fraternal order, dedicated to Hermetic and Rosicrucian teachings. The HoSM is one of several autonomous Golden Dawn Orders that operate under the legal umbrella of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc.[1]

The HoSM adopted its name from the historical Stella Matutina Order of the Golden Dawn,[2] and follows the traditions of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn as revealed in publications by Israel Regardie and Chic and Tabatha Cicero[3] (all of whom descend from the historical Stella Matutina lineage). It is a fully Traditional Initiatory Order of the Golden Dawn: its Temples are physical, and students advance via testing and initiation ceremonies performed by trained Temple Officers.[4]

Meanwhile, the HoSM is better known for its creation and administration of an online public school called the Hermetic Sanctuary of Ma'at.[2] (See below for more.)

[edit] The Hermetic Sanctuary of Ma'at

The Hermetic Sanctuary of Ma'at Order of the Golden Dawn (or SoM) is an online public school dedicated to "Self-Initiates"- students of the Golden Dawn Tradition who live too far from physical Temples to participate, or those who simply wish to work solitary. The SoM primarily provides student resources for such solo-aspriants - in the form of online forums, classes, personal proctoring, testing, etc.[2] They also offer help in establishing study groups (called Triangles) of 3 to 6 students who live near enough to each other to meet once a month.[5]

The SoM curriculum is based primarily upon the book Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition by Chic and Tabatha Cicero.[3] Plus, over the past several years, they have developed their own unique curriculum, lectures, resources, etc.[6]

The SoM also maintains associations with independent Golden Dawn Temples and Orders. Because the SoM is a public school rather than a traditional Initiatory Order, their students are welcome to undertake physical initiations with Associate Temples, which will be counted toward their progress in the SoM. Also, members of such Associate Temples are invited to utilize the SoM's student resources and testing facilities for their own members. Membership in the SoM does not grant one automatic membership into the Ordo Stella Matutina.
