Orchomenus

A king in Greek mythology, Orchomenus was the father of Elara.
Other Greek mythological figures bearing the same name include:
- the father of Lycaon;
- the father of Minyas;
- a murdered son of Thyestes;
- a childless son of Minyas;
- the son of Athamas and Themisto.
Orchomenus, or Orkhómenos, was a city in Greece, situated on the Cephissus river where it emptied into Lake Copais. It was an important city in the Mycenaean period, and is presently an important archeological site.
