Orange România is Romania's largest GSM network operator, the subsidiary of Orange SA. It is now fully owned by the France Télécom Group (who owns Orange SA), the biggest initial investor, who graduatly increased its ownership. Until April 2002, they operated under the brand name Dialog and after France Télécom gained a majority stake it was rebranded to comply with the group's global strategy. As of January 2006, Orange Romania has 7,100,000 subscribers, which gives them 48.43% market share.

Orange is in head-to-head competition with Vodafone Romania for one of the most dynamic mobile telephony markets in south eastern Europe. Currently the mobile penetration is at about 63% and Orange edged ahead of Vodafone (formerly Connex) in terms of number of subscribers in September 2004. They are the main mobile telephony operators, each sharing more than 45% of the total market. The other competitors are Cosmote România, newly rebranded after the takeover by Cosmote Greece and Zapp Mobile a CDMA operator.
