[edit] Album information
It was released later again in March 28, 2006 with the addition of the hit "Hips Don't Lie".
"The title comes from the fact that I have always lived through my mouth," Shakira has said. "It is my biggest source of pleasure and my most accessible vehicle to discover and enjoy the world. I am fixated on chocolate! I am fixated on the spoken word, the written word, the things I have said and the things I should never have said. This is the reason why I decided on this names for the albums (Fijación Oral Vol. 1 / Oral Fixation Vol. 2)". The album artwork is significant as well. Shakira called upon Renaissance icons to explain the significance of Oral Fixation. In Oral Fixation Vol. 2 the same child from the past album is perched in a tree and reaches for an apple held in Shakira's hand. "Vol. 2 is more of a Jungian sort of thing, since the reference is to a universal archetype of Eve (Adam and Eve) and the original sin. I think that is something that is really subconsciously in our minds. On the cover of Vol. 2 I wanted to attributed one more reason for Eve to bite the forbidden fruit - that would be her oral fixation." It debuted with 128,000 copies sold, lower then Shakira's previous english album Laundry Service (202,000 copies back in 11/01), and even lower then her spanish album Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 which sold 157,000 copies in its first week back in April 2005. The album then contiuned to slide down the charts until March 2006 when "Hips Don't Lie" was added to the album, which had one of the biggest increases ever from #98 to #6. A 641% increase.
[edit] Alternative album cover
In the Indonesian version of the album, the song "Timor" was renamed to "It's Alright" because East Timorese independence is still a highly controversial issue in Indonesia.
The album cover was also changed in many Muslim nations due to possible controversy (Adam and Eve). The album cover in these contries is alternated to the cover of "Don't Bother" cd single (that only shows Shakira's face).
