Optochin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Optochin (ethyl hydrocuprein hydrochloride) is the component of P disk. It is used for the presumptive identification of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is optochin sensitive, from Streptococcus viridans which is resistant. Bacteria that are optochin sensitive will not grow in its presence, forming a halo of clear agar around the P disk.
