Optare Alero

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Optare Alero is a low-floor integral bus built by Optare since 2000. It was built as an alternative to van-derived buses such as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

The Alero has been popular for rural demand responsive bus routes, such as Hampshire's Cango.

Options for the Alero include:

  • Automatic Gearbox
  • Full capacity (up to 16 seats, no wheelchair space)
  • Rural capacity (up to 12 seats with a space for wheelchairs)
  • Destination box

[edit] Alero Plus

The Alero has now been superseded by the new Optare Alero Plus. It is the Alero but with more and upgraded features. Optare claimed this to be a different vehicle.

Two Alero Plus demonstrators are currently touring the country, showing operators what the Alero Plus is capable of.
