Operation Amethyst

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Operation Amethyst was an Irish Gardai operation targeting child pornography. Involving simultaneous searches on May 25, 2002[1] of over a hundred individuals suspected of downloading child pornography, it was one of the largest police operations in Ireland's history.

Following from an FBI investigation in the United States, details of 130 people were passed to the Irish Police.[2] Several high profile individuals were caught in the operation, including Irish Circuit Court Judge Brian Curtin[3] and celebrity chef Tim Allen[4].
