Opel Kapitän was a car made in many different generations by the German car maker Opel from 1938 to 1970.

The first Kapitän was availible in many different body styles, the most popular one being the 4-door sedan but 2-door coupes and cabriolets were built as well. The pre war Kapitän with its unitary body was a modern car for its time.

The 1947 Kapitän was a large six cylinder sedan based on the 1939 version. This time it was only availible as a sedan.

The 1951 Kapitän was a modernized version of the old model. Technically it was much the same.

The 1958 model was both wider and lower than its predecessor. This model featured panoramic windows. It was only built for one year.

In 1959 a new larger Kapitän was introduced. It still had the panoramic windscreen but a new grille and rear.

In 1964 Opel introcued the KAD (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) models. KAD was a group name for these three large Opels.

The Kapitän B was introduced in 1969 and was the last car bearing the Kapitän name. Production ended in 1970. The Admiral and Diplomat lived on another seven years until they were replaced by the Senator in 1978 .
